Incidentally, it’s my distinct impression that many of these watches went through absolute hell during these missions, breaking parts often, requiring replacement parts, etc. Whose watch was it that was wrapped in scotch tape to keep it together?
So, my impression is that Speedmaster’s were chosen if anything because they could barely survive the abuse - not because they were entirely unfazed by it.
Then on threads around here you see folks say things like “if it could live through space, it could live through [X]” ... but I don’t think they mean what they think they mean
