I had a Speedy Moonwatch years ago that I regretfully sold so, I have been on the hunt for something to replace it with. I just bought this one sight unseen, which is always risky with vintage watches. Most of my watches are pilot/military timepieces.

This one is certainly not in mint condition as the case has been polished a bit on the pusher side, and the hands appear to have been touched up a bit too. It has the correct original 1221/12 bracelet, and it has a code on the case back K470. It has a few small nicks, but it's in pretty good shape considering the age and all. The dealer said it was serviced in house, and it is certainly functioning properly.

It is a solid watch for sure, but it feels great on my 7.25 inch wrist. I had to remove on link to get the proper fit.

Welcome @TimeOnTarget ! I like the 125 a lot, I hope you will enjoy it! I can't wear mine at the moment since the bracelet is broken but a new one is ordered and I am really looking forward to wearing it again 😀
Do you have pictures of your other watches?

In the off chance you haven’t seen @Andy K ’s site:

https://speedmaster125.com/

See also his associated site more broadly on the cal.1040 family of Omegas.

My, less good, coverage of same here

Yes, I did see both of these web pages. They played a significant role in piquing my interest in this watch. Thanks for the great information.

Congrats on the catch!

The Speedy 125 is underappreciated for what it is (i.e. first automatic chronometer chronograph by any watch maker, cool integrated bracelet, etc).

When I got mine, I wrote about it here: https://omegaforums.net/threads/the-best-way-to-heal-a-broken-heart.90439/

Wow! Yours is in great condition. My case shows more wear, and it has been polished a bit. It is hard to capture with my phone camera, but it is visible on the side next to the 4 O'clock pusher.

I think yours look pretty good, honest wear (I see that as battle scars and a sign of been on duty).
😀

If with time that becomes an issue, one alternative is to try to find a new case.

The Speedy 125 has an innovative pop-out case around the movement holder. It seems that the whole thing is kept together using an o-ring (unfortunately, I don't have any photos showing it).

The same design was reused by the Mark 4.5, as you can see here:

Congrats on the 125 purchase!

This is a first release with the code on the caseback, serial should be in 35 millions. We have written a review (downloadable as PDF) about this model with our friend Andy: https://www.watchbooksonly.com/ebooks/

I read your article prior to buying my watch. I became fascinated with the story. Thanks so much for the effort in writing and researching this article!

Yes, my serial number starts with #35. I was really hoping that this would be an early model. It has been keeping within about 6 seconds over the past several days.

You can get an Extract from the Archives if you want to know from when exactly your watch is but maybe you already know that.
I have a 38.291.xxx serial number and the production date was February 2 in 1976 😉

A printed book for just this model was not a GO on an editorial point of view.... at least collectors have a free PDF.

Too bad but that website and free pdf are very great 👍

So I hope the 125 will be appreciated in a book some day in the future and until then I wait for Seamaster Only 🙄
Any news on that? 😁
