Yep - that's about right. I pay around $15 a month for $15K coverage w state farm. I can self-report value on anything under $2500. Have to get an appraisal for items over, but it's a very simple process. No deductible. And when I add something, I get to chat about watches with my insurance agent, who is also a collector.
The best part is that these policies cover OUR mistakes too! Drop it on the floor, lose it on a hike, scratch it wrestling a bear, swat a mosquito with it, you're covered!

Never get Speedmasters near water. Of take them to the moon-they have problems there, too.

Except when your young kid is in the pool (like the OP’s) and it’s your instinct to dive in to get them. Then, the watch is irrelevant.

I take a different view of insurance, it is there to protect you from losses that would be financially or personally catastrophic. House, check. Auto, check. Life, check. A $5 or $10k watch, nope. Have had expensive watches for many years, travelled with them all over the world, never lost one or had one stolen. A lot depends on where you live. Many people, especially Americans, over insure. It's a personal choice. If paying a premium every month to cover your watch makes you sleep better then go ahead.

You have a PM - this sort of thing is what I love to do...

Well, after a few emails back and forth at the time of this thread creation, with Toosweet saying he needed the weekend to think it over, I never heard back from him. Subsequent emails asking him to let me know one way or another have gone unanswered.

Oh well...was looking forward to this one but sometimes it doesn’t work out...

Do you get a lot of "tire kickers"? I bet that has to be in the top three of retail service annoyances.

No, not usually. It’s actually pretty rare.

Did you try throwing it in the white rice? Urban legend has it saving iPhones.

Never sounded like the OP was too keen to spend the time and effort to get the watch back in shape. Many people balk at expensive maintenance of items. Unfortunate in this case. Or perhaps he just shipped it off to Omega to sort out.

I never really understood what the OP wanted and what he was so pissed off about. He destroyed his watch and then he's angry at Omega for offering to completely restore it.

If you worked in the repair business you would understand. The angriest people are the ones that either destroyed through their actions or tried to repair it themselves. They bring you the mess and then the fun begins. It’s often a job that you wish you hadn’t taken.

I’m really surprised by this. I hope that I never find myself in the OP’s shoes, but If I was I would have accepted Archer’s offer in no time flat. Send something like this to Omega? No thanks.

As a new member, I doubt he really had an appreciation of the OF cast of characters. But also, I felt like he was more invested in complaining than in really solving his problem.

I think he was probably shocked to get confirmation that Omega wasn’t being “unreasonable”. Often when someone doesn’t get the answer they want, they stop listening.

Hey as a digression (and because the photo of his water damaged speedy made me think of this):
If you were to wear a radium lumed watch and jump in a pool, it filling with water, would you run the risk of some radium mixing and leaving the watch?

“Oh, my God, the radon, the radon!”

Sorry. I couldn’t help myself.

Doesn't water slow down nuclear reactors? That's what seems to happen in movies.
