Hello, new to the forum, very interested in buying a Seamaster. I have found one that I like just not sure if the price is good. Ive been looking around a lot and this one. It is beautiful. I will send it to get service right away after buying it. I just love the way this watch looks. Anyways, here's the watch. please let me know what you think. Oh, and does anyone have a shot of a 34mm Seamaster on their wrist? Thanks,
Forrest.
Price,$1,013.43(very strange how they got to that number)

Yes, taken tonight coincidentally but bear in mind I have thin wrists.

Mine's gold capped with gold furniture. It’s a 14704-61, also with a 591 movement. My serial is 1787****, so marginally younger than yours.

The one you’re contemplating looks very nice. The dial seems original and the movement looks fine. The indices are slightly different.

I won’t comment on the price, you’ll have done your sums and comparisons.

I am hot on the search for the same. Even though prices have been going up, I think that the price is not good. If it had a recent service, I think it would be OK. Most all Seamasters of this era would be about 34mm. For size, I think it is good to have someone with the same size wrist as you to compare. I have 6.25" wrists, so I think 34-36mm are perfect.

Actually, I will comment on price. I’ve now worked out that 1013 usd is about £750. I bought mine in 2017 for £400 unserviced. I thought I’d done very well.
Allowing for the rise in prices @wagudc mentions I don’t think the price is too bad for a nice looking 60 year old collectible Seamaster.

7” wrist with my 14765-2. The thicker lugs on yours will have it looking different for you. You will get used to the smaller size in short order

Welcome to OF! I can see a damage on the dial. In my opinion the price is way too high on a quite small watch. For that kind of money you could do better. Seek further and have patience.

Hi @Forrest645 and welcome.

Like you and the honourable gentlemen here, I also have a sweet spot for Seamasters of this era, specially in stainless steel and with a cream dial.

Here is my 2846, also 34,5mm in my 6.35" wrist.

If you stick around long enough, you will see eventually some Seamasters going for really good prices on the sales section of this forum.

There was one similar to mine, but with a Chronometre-Grade 354 movement, which sold for under 900$. There were others similar to the other Seamasters in this thread for under 600$.

I think it might not be a bad deal indeed but you should have a look here first.

Good luck with your hunt.

Best,

Rudi

Of course, that’s always a sensible option but there are a couple of things to factor in.

1. Photos invariably highlight marks on dials that are generally invisible to the wearer. And such marks as there are, suggest that this isn’t a redial IMO.

2. To find a 63 year old Omega in pristine condition might suggest that the watch is ‘restored/refurbished'. I wouldn’t have a huge problem with buying one but I appreciate that many on OF would.

This looks like a nice watch, at reasonable price and, most importantly, the OP likes it.

A further worry might be that if the OP were to pass on this and scour the watch sales, he might have to pay significantly more for a perfect specimen that he’d be reluctant to wear regularly.

@Forrest645 could always nab this one, wear it and still keep his eyes open for a perfect specimen. Or, if he changes his mind, he can always sell on. I don’t suppose he’d lose a lot and, thinking further, compared with many of the watches worn and posted on OF, this one is comparatively inexpensive.

Thanks for the warm reception to the forum!
@Spruce nice watch!
@DaveK i have slightly larger wrist and currently wear a sinn556i, which is 38mm, I think this sea master would look great. You mentioned the lugs being larger that will give it a bigger appearance, also I feel like the glass makes it pop even more.
@Rudi99 great shot and very nice sea master indeed. I’ve been on the hunt for a while and been to several different sites. The price may be high on this specific watch but like do very much like it, I think I’m just looking for reassurance that I’m not getting the short end of the stick. I know I’ll have to pay several hundred for servicing and that’s fine.
@Spruce like I said I’ve been looking and perhaps I should keep looking for longer. However, my 30th birthday is the 27th and I really want to treat myself to a sea master. I don’t plan on reselling this watch(I’m sure a lot of you collectors have said that).

Going to message the seller today and make an offer. At around $900 which I think is fair, but then again what do I know. See what he says.

Isn't the 14704 a tad smaller than 34mm? That's why I've ruled out the reference for me so far.

As for pricing guidance.

1) An example (though with a 552 caliber) was recently sold on OF for USD 775 https://omegaforums.net/threads/sold-1961-omega-seamaster-ref-14704.121987/.

2) The Japanese seller closer0924 with whom some OF members seem to have dealt with in the past (I have not so far) is currently offering one for USD 698. https://www.ebay.ch/itm/OMEGA-Seama...390839?hash=item3b516122b7:g:g0oAAOSwLYdfon1w. Don't take this as buy recommendation, run it through the experts here on OF first before considering buying.

Oh wow thanks for that. That helps a lot.
FWIW I’m not a stickler nor a cheapskate looking to low ball anyone, just generally don’t know how these are priced and don’t want to over pay.

closer's buy it now prices are always slightly overvalued and the watches always have something wrong with them too, nothing major, but something small wrong with them

For $1000 - I wouldn't want that left blemish to be there, if it's on the dial, bad
