Omega Seamaster James Bond with serial that starts with A

Hi guys

Wuick question, I bought a Seamaster 300M recently (210.90.42.20.01.001) and have the serial A013598.

Two other friends bought as well a Seamaster 300M watch and have only serials with numbers. I checked in my watch collection and it turns out all of my watches have a serial only containing numbers.

The watch is genuine (bought it at an official AD), was only wondering why the serial has an A and if that is something rather special.
Any idea what the reason is?
Thanks for the help.

Check the number on your warranty card and on the lug of the watch. I don’t think that is your serial number on the sticker.

I am not privy to the numbering system that omega uses but I like the case back!

Love the watch, something different.
But the serial number drives me crazy. Never saw a seamaster or speedmaster serial starting with the letter “A” and have to find out what that means or if they simply started a new numerical order with serial numbers

Must be the new designation for 'service replacement'

😁

Or maybe prototype 😁

But seriously though, its likely just a new scheme (and maybe someone wiser will come along with better info)...killer watch, would not bother me a single bit. Wear in good health.

My guess is that they ran out of numbers and starting with letters now (like rolex did in the past).

prototype or something like that would obviously be fantastic, but don’t think so (as it has the updated mesh bracelet -> literally bought it a couple of days ago).

I just need to know, will drive me crazy if I don’t find out

Did you already try and login to the Omega site to check your Metas results with the serial?

Omega has been using alphanumeric serial numbers since 2019. They are being used alongside numerical serial numbers.

Thanks for that Archer, was not aware of that.
The first time I saw a serial number which does not consist just of numbers.

Do you know what the reason is behind that?
The only thing which would make sense for me, is if they would decide to totally switch to an alphanumeric approach as they don’t want to produce serial numbers with 9 digits. But if they already started in 2019, that can’t be the reason.. 😕

The new scheme gives them 26m possibilities out of just 6 digits plus a letter. Rather more elegant than a messy 9 digit serial don't you think? Some models were bumping into 100m so something had to be done sooner or later.
