Omega seamaster banana

Hi there,
Not a watch expert so looking for advice. I recently inherited an omega seamaster 200 banana from my dad who got it for his 18th birthday. I've been advised it needs a little work to bring it back to former glory. ( new end piece for strap and a new crown) The cost to service is quite expensive. Just wondering is it worth it? Would like to sell the watch as I would never use it.

Well it’s hard to say if it’s worth it without knowing the actual service quote you’ve been given.

However, general advise is to sell as is as you often won’t recoup the servicing cost and collectors prefer to buy in ‘as found’ condition.

Shop around for different service costs including outside of approved Omega service center's.
I know from using my own watch maker that there is a huge price differential, a recent Omega service cost me NZ$120, competing approved Omega agents costs were north of NZ$900 for a simple service.

Given its provenance I would get a simple service including new crown if needed and keep it.

You want to sell your inheritance? Oh Dear.... Leave as is. Put on eBay. Get $2000. Spend on stuff, you have forgotten in 12 months.

Yea that’s pretty much it, put it on ebay no reserve don’t service it and you’ll get paid.

That seems a bit unfair, given we have no idea WHY he or she does not wish to keep it.
