Hey! This is my first post. Happy to be apart of this community.

I have the opportunity to trade for this Seamaster 2551.80

it’s a little banged up as you can see from the images. The bezel has a knock on it at the 1 o’clock position.

just curious if that is fixable and if it is. How much that might cost. Also how much do you think it would be to service the movement as well. Just trying to get some expertise before I pulled the trigger.

The fix is a new bezel at a omega authorized service centre. Couple hundred bucks.

Thanks for the info. How much do you think the service would be?

Depends where you are. They might do the bezel swap without a service, you'd have to ask.

do you think this is an okay value of around 1400 is bucks?? I’d be trading so it’s not cash per se.

Also is the red tip missing from the second hand anything to worry about. Or just comes with age/patina

All good questions. Value is very subjective, but the hand tip should be red. It could well be faded

The second hand has faded: many do that. Price wise - unless it’s been serviced within a few years I’d budget for a service too. That could well set you back a few hundred $/£/€ as well. Omega (or a trained watchmaker) could return it to a very nice condition for you. I’d ‘guess’ at $500+ to include a new bezel, second hand and a service with polish.

Edit: looks to need a new crystal too.

If it needs a new bezel and/or crystal then that is a money pit and to be avoided. Bear in mind to get parts at a sensible price now you need to use an authorised repairer. To make that watch mint ie service it and replace both could cost in excess of £700/$900. I am not exaggerating. The price of parts like bezels and crystals has risen sharply recently, even via authorised channels. You might get away with £550/$700 if it’s just a service and bezel. But you might not if the crystal is nibbled and it looks nibbled there.

I would price a tatty mid size SMP like that at no more than £700/$900 for this reason. $1400 is way over its real value.

You could do it on the cheap I suppose, get a $300 unauthorised service and fit an eBay $25 fake insert, or even a second hand bezel but it would look like crap and you’d still have a damaged crystal.

Agree completely, that watch needs enough in service costs as to equal about 2/3 of the supposed value of $1,400. OP, what watch are you potentially trading? If it's a straight up trade, it must be a decent watch. So you'd be without that plus out of pocket about $900 to acquire this thing. Hard pass.

Just had my bezel replaced on my SMP $450 Cad ...
Exactly. That is the same picture here in the UK, its no longer just 'a couple of hundred bucks' even in US dollaridoos.

i have for sale a few things on the watch exchange section of reddit. The trade for this was going to be two Montblanc watches.
