I enjoy Bond films, but am by no means a fanboy. I picked up this watch the other day while vacationing in Singapore, choosing this over the standard SM300 mostly because of the brushed bracelet, the "dual-time" bezel, the Nato strap, and to a small extent, the extras that came with the LE package.

But I would have passed on this if the 007 stuff was on the dial. As Lew says, the Bond branding is more subtle than on other Omega watches.

I'm more of a bracelet guy, so that's how I'm wearing it right now. I think I'm okay with the 007 on the clasp, but if I did want to swap out clasp, does anybody have a part number and price estimate? $150? Is this an easy DIY, preserving the micro adjust thing under the clasp?

That price sounds about right. I am conveniently forgetful! The Omega boutique ordered the standard clasp for me when I purchased the watch. About a week or so later, they called to say it had arrived. I stopped by and they fitted it to the bracelet for me. The procedure looked complicated. For me, not a do it yourself thing. For others, providing the correct tools, it might be.

The new set up looks good. I'm still wearing it on the NATO, though. If I do switch up to the bracelet, I prefer the standard clasp. The other is fun and cool to own, but I have to maintain my cover!

Thanks, Lew. I'll check pricing with my Atlanta boutique when I get back to tge States this week.

Some photos for reference. You can see the 007 logo on the clasp the bracelet comes with isn't too garish. Probably no one would notice, unless you pointed it out in conversation:

Shouldn't a diving bezel be uni-directional, so if nudged by accident it can only show you have less time left underwater?

It's definitely not a conventional dive watch bezel, which its detractors point out. The model on which it is based has a bezel just was you describe.

This watch has a bezel that can monitor elapsed time and can also be used to monitor a second time zone. A hybrid of sorts.

I've heard the bezel design may relate to some gadget in the film.

The Bond watch comes with a booklet...

"Column-wheel chronograph mechanism"? What chronograph? Or do the sub-dials & pushers only appear with the bezel rotated to 5 at the 12? Might be worth the extra money, after all...

I'll have to see it in person before I make any judgments. But far, I much prefer the original.

Is it me, or are all these "limited editions" starting to make Omega feel like modern IWC? (Not a compliment)

It seems to me that approximately 3,000 watches is the limit for a collector piece. 7,007 = market glut. Great looking watch but the 007 engraving is tacky IMO. Definitely mixed feelings about this. I don't want to wear a movie collectable on my wrist.

I also have mixed feelings about it but on balance I think I can over look the marketing and the fact that it hardly qualifies as a LE. I am 99.9% sure that I am going to buy this one when I go home this weekend. Just need to see it in the flesh first.

I guess the proper way to look at it is that #1 it is a great looking piece. If you purchase what you like, nothing else matters - a good general rule in life. The marketing allows Omega to come out with more designs and to be profitable. The marketing is a "necessary evil" so they can produce such pieces. Without the movie tie-in, the watch would not exist. Realistically, 1% of the male population will know it is a "Bond" watch and 0% of the female population will know it is a "Bond" watch. The watch is definitely a winner in the looks department.

Who is the new Bond with Craig stepping down?

Right now it's between:

Idris Elba, Jack O'connell, Damien Lewis, Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy and who knows who else may get in there. Craig is slated for at least one more. My favorites on that list are Idris Elba and Henry Cavill. (Luther and Man from U.N.C.L.E)

Oh no! The "bi-directional rotating diving bezel" came back into print! No, no, no! A bi-directional bezel could literally kill a SCUBA diver.

I'll give the promo-writing folks the benefit of the doubt and assume the bi-directional diving bezel reference is the same class of mistake as the chronograph parts reference.

Maybe that IS the secret feature in the movie. Like the bad guy is going diving and Bond says " here, you can borrow this watch for the dive" and Just like that the bezel kills the bad guy. Genius!!

I think they want to update Bond for the millennials. They will make him a "hipster" Bond. Skinny Jeans, beard, and he will drink craft beer instead of the martinis. No cool cars either...single speed bike is the preferred mode of transport.

As for the evolution of Bond and who should be next... lets review shall we: we had the womanizer suave 60's represented by Connery, we had the pretty boy bland 80's/90's phase with Moore and Brosnan, the gritty tough guy with Craig in the recent past, and I think for this next generation, often called the "wuss generation", someone more in line with the times and what it means to be a man in today's society, you know, somebody like this:

Boy..... Pajama Boy.
