I guess the proper way to look at it is that #1 it is a great looking piece. If you purchase what you like, nothing else matters - a good general rule in life. The marketing allows Omega to come out with more designs and to be profitable. The marketing is a "necessary evil" so they can produce such pieces. Without the movie tie-in, the watch would not exist. Realistically, 1% of the male population will know it is a "Bond" watch and 0% of the female population will know it is a "Bond" watch. The watch is definitely a winner in the looks department.

That is how I am looking at it, not really buying into the marketing I just like the watch more than the original, although I would be happier if it didn t have the 007 crap on it. I am going to buy the brown leather strap and clasp too. The engraving on the NATO strap is really small, so really it is only the clasp on the metal bracelet that is annoying, but I can always do what Lew did and buy the normal one.

Oh no! The "bi-directional rotating diving bezel" came back into print! No, no, no! A bi-directional bezel could literally kill a SCUBA diver.

I'll give the promo-writing folks the benefit of the doubt and assume the bi-directional diving bezel reference is the same class of mistake as the chronograph parts reference.

And the bezel is quite loose to boot. I'll probably take my Steinhart's diving : )

Why should Omega release a strap copy of a rolex watch. They establish their own colours for the natos. I think.

Proper NATO straps are not watch brand colours but are based on regimental stable belt colours like the one I wear on my old Army watch which is for my old unit (Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment).

The original Connery Bond strap was actually never a NATO or in the colours of any regiment, it was just a 16mm belt type strap.

Actually, what he's wearing in the photo isn't a modern SM300, either standard or LE. It's clearly a vintage, probably with the sword hands - look at the bezel. (I don't know the model numbers well enough to specify it further.)

Craig is a noted watch collector ... he is rumored to favor Rolex for much of his personal wrist time, but he clearly has a few classic Omegas as well. I saw this story last night on the Spectre premiere in London: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbi...ca-Bellucci-Lea-Seydoux-Spectre-premiere.html

In one of the photos it's clear that Craig is wearing a watch with a white face on a black leather strap ... but I can't tell with any confidence exactly what make or model it might be.

He's right - Craig is wearing a vintage 165.024 in this photo (could be a 166.024 but I think it's no-date)

I was in Oxford Street Omega Boutique on Saturday and they said he regularly visits the Bond Street branch and has a 57 Speedmaster.

Yep he wore that last night at the Spectre premiere I believe. Interestingly, one of the villians was wearing the SM300 LE 😀

More suited with brushed apose to polished imo however I doubt I will ever put it on again as I love the Nato bond strap which really compliments it colour wise as well as extremely comfortable. The LE 300 is pretty much sold out now I believe however I've been told Omega will brush your standard 300 bracelet free of charge although I cant confirm that.

The watch is still a great watch but you're paying extra to advertise a fictional character in a movie that was paid to have the watch included in it...Would be funny if a Real Bond had a watch that said "Bond' or 007 or had gun barrels in it...not very "secret" agent of him. It's an action figure watch.

as a matter of fact they need YOUR price premium to be able to pay Bond ... Omega only sponsors the whole thing, b/c they are (financially) better off than not doing it ;-)

cheers, al

Unless there's a helium escape valve that can release knock-out gas, a laser torch and a self-destruct (if stolen), I'm not buying.

Heyhey,

yesterday at my local dealer i got the chance to wear the new LE 007 ... wow what a flash!
I like it a lot! Very nice and well positioned of the 007 aspects extremely decent and nicely
choosen. Should i go for it? I reserved it till Monday ... thinking and thinking over and over...

I like it a lot, but does it fit to an only Speedy collection?

At the Paris premiere Craig wore the standard SM300 version ... No NATO strap this time, however ...
