·I guess the proper way to look at it is that #1 it is a great looking piece. If you purchase what you like, nothing else matters - a good general rule in life. The marketing allows Omega to come out with more designs and to be profitable. The marketing is a "necessary evil" so they can produce such pieces. Without the movie tie-in, the watch would not exist. Realistically, 1% of the male population will know it is a "Bond" watch and 0% of the female population will know it is a "Bond" watch. The watch is definitely a winner in the looks department.
That is how I am looking at it, not really buying into the marketing I just like the watch more than the original, although I would be happier if it didn t have the 007 crap on it. I am going to buy the brown leather strap and clasp too. The engraving on the NATO strap is really small, so really it is only the clasp on the metal bracelet that is annoying, but I can always do what Lew did and buy the normal one.
