OF - thanks for the space. I wanted to kindly ask for your input on this Seamaster 300 example below. It's a bit beaten, but I suspect it's original, and super dirty! Perhaps some beauty below all the grime.

How do you price such a piece? What would you pay? I see the market prices for the big triangle 300's over 5k USD. I would want to take this on as a project watch in good conscience, and be sure I am not massively out of pocket if I decide to restore the dial.

Thank you,
L

I like the watch! The case-back is polished to death ;-) I can not see the sides of the case (brush? grinding? -> compare! ). Looks like a GILT-dial so: Do NOT restore it!

I see that the watch is running, so that's a good sign.

Every part of the watch is in bad condition, but I don't doubt that you could restore and wear it. The calculation I would do is to think about the cost of restoration (basically dial/hands re-lume and movement repair/service) and then the market value after restoration if I were to sell it. And be conservative, because you don't really know how much you'll need to invest, but the upside is limited by the condition. I feel like if you can get it for $2k or so, it could be worth it.

For 2K I would buy one like this any day of the week

Thank you all for your kind comments and replies - the watch is selling for 3k USD. So I think I will keep an eye out for reductions. I didn't notice the case's condition, which is a big negative. I think everything else could clean up nicely, but at this price point, I'm unsure.

It's my experience that cases in that condition seem to be even worse in-hand than pictured.
