    Hi all,

For my 40th this year I've decided to buy myself a nice watch and Isaw a seamaster 30 on chrono24 which to my eye looked beautiful.

Looking on this forum, I've came to realise why polishing a watch can be detrimental, I'm still struggling why a redial can be. Any more details as to why this is would be most welcomed.

I'd love to know everyone's thoughts on this watch, good, bad and ugly to help me in my learning curve on vintage watches.

    Thanks,

    Coop

That watch has the total value of "sod all". Sorry, but a redialed watch with a movement in that bad a condition in a case as pitted as that... Not worth going for.

I wrote something that might help you grasp the basics, hope you'll like it.

Just to add - if your budget is around the £500 mark there are a number of great watches to be found - don't worry :)

Some people don't care if a watch is a redial. Most people in here do care. It's just the way things are with most collectible items or items that you pay a lot of money for, you want it to be original.

The watch from chrono24 you have linked to makes me sick. Please do avoid it. As the esteemed ConElPueblo said it is not hard to find something really nice around the £500 mark. Especially Seamaster 30 or similar Omegas from the 50s and 60s. You can get a great piece for far less.

All of these were significantly less that £500 and are not redialled.

Thanks for the swift reply's, very valuable reading. Thanks for the link to the 'how to fish' page too.

As a novice in here, what specifically makes you sick about the watch that i have linked Togri? Just so I know what to look for. Was it the state of the movement and the back of the case as pointed out by ConElPueblo, or something else?

Out of interest, how much would the linked watch be worth, I know 'sod all' was said, but what in terms of money?

Sorry for all the questions, but one last one. Should chrono 24 be given a wide birth? If so, are there any decent sites that anyone can recommend?

    Thanks

    Coop

£100 for the one you quoted. Maybe. I wouldn't pay even that. I'd rather put 100 towards a decent watch.

This might help explain why redials are generally frowned upon.

Many decent watches on Chrono24, but it should be treated no different from offers from eBay sellers, which means that you should do your homework before buying.

The reason why the watch above isn't a good one is that it has been redialed badly. It has been put together in India and redialed there with no regard to the original look, only to lure unsuspecting buyers to pull the trigger.

In time you'll be able to spot this easily. Take your time.

Seller writes it was repainted by an expert to look new and flawless. What a load of crap. The case has also been polished to death. It doesn't look like that when it leaves (left) the factory. Buy here on the forum is the best advice if you are new to this :)

May I also point out that the watch in question never was a Seamaster, completely wrong reference.

I see what you're saying, never a seamaster. Thanks again all. Saved me.
