·Hello everyone!
I'm a new member from Brazil and I'm considering purchasing a vintage Omega Seamaster for my personal collection. I would really appreciate your opinions before making a decision.
The watch is advertised as being from around 1956, with an Omega caliber 501 movement. The inside caseback is marked 2846-6 SC / 2848.
According to the seller, the watch is original and was serviced not too long ago. However, he does not know whether the dial has ever been replaced or refinished, and no service documentation has been provided.
My main concern is the dial.
I've noticed the inscription "T SWISS MADE T" at the bottom. From my research, these tritium markings seem to be more commonly associated with Omega dials from the 1960s onward, rather than the mid-1950s.
This made me wonder whether the dial could be:
1. An original dial that was refinished at some point.
2. A genuine Omega replacement/service dial installed later.
3. A later dial adapted to this reference.
I would also appreciate your thoughts on the dial's typography, the applied markers, the hands and the overall consistency of the watch.
Does the dial look correct to you? Is there anything suggesting a redial or a later service replacement?
I'm primarily interested in buying this watch to wear and enjoy, rather than as an investment. I wouldn't necessarily mind a genuine Omega service dial, but I would like to understand what I'm purchasing.
I've attached the available photos of the dial, movement and inside caseback. Unfortunately, I don't have the watch in hand yet.
Any observations or suggestions about additional photographs I should request would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your time and expertise!
