Omega Seamaster 1958 cal 520

I want to buy my first Seamaster and I would like to know what you think about this watch because I am not a specialist in the field.
In the description the seller says he changed the case, what do you think?
The price of 1000$ seems a bit high, but how much should I negotiate?
I’ll put the link here for full description and photos: https://www.chrono24.com/search/ind...58&searchexplain=true&sortorder=1&watchTypes=

With thanks,
Bogdan

Unlike the other watches on that site, this listing does NOT show the movement.
It would be nice to see the movement, to know what it really is (and what kind of condition it's in).

Ah. I found it. Run. And never look back. Stay around here and look at the sales forum.

The movement number later than 1958. That is more like 1960. He openly accepts it is a Franken with a replaced case. Steer clear.

Dealer price. $300+ more than you would pay.

I would keep my money and find a nicer dial, hand set and a case style with thicker lugs.
$1000 should get you a better example with a bit of time and knowledge gained in that time

You can do WAY better for that money! For $1K I would expect a perfect example, automatic, and with a good BOR bracelet.

Chrono24 is not the friend of the new buyer....

Can you tell me a better site?

I can tell you two. One is the Private Sales forum here. The other is ebay - but it is necessary to have some knowledge first. Patience is also essential!

If you go down the ebay route, some advice:
1. Decide on one or two models that you like and study them intensively. Be aware that as you learn more, your taste may change!
2. Don't waste your time with business sellers.
3. Don't waste your time with Buy It Now listings.
4. Don't look for a cheap watch that needs work doing. Look for one that appears all original and in good condition.
We were all beginners once and we all understand the difficulty and stress in finding that first vintage Omega. If you are careful and patient, you will find one to enjoy for years to come.

There are also a lot of online auctions. You can find them on sites like the salesroom, etc. I would say a watch like yours would fetch not more than EUR 350/400 on open auction. I bought dozens of seamasters in way better condition for under EUR 500. @Edward53 is giving you some very good advice. Focus on a couple of models and start there. If in doubt, post here. People will help you. Good luck!

I think that one could easily fetch around €500 in open auction, being a 50s Seamaster in "nice" condition. Most people couldn't care less that it's a franken. $1000 is outrageous.

It's a 33mm watch. Small market for these. But 500? Maybe. You never know. Similar 33mm's i've sold were very difficult to sell for that kind of money. Especially because you can buy a nice 34/35mm for the same price.
