Omega Seamaster 120m 2301.21.00 - Crown replacement

Hello All,

I would need to replace the crown on my omega 2301.21.00 as it won't screw down anymore.

Apparently it is 18k gold, I was wondering if you can guide me to the watch part number so I can see if I found it around. Do you think this is something that can be easily found, is this restricted only for Omega repairer?

Would it be bad to replace it to a stainless steel in case I cannot find it? I guess that the only option is to send the watch to repair at an omega repair centre?

Thanks in advance,
Adriano

The crown is part 069BA42123.

If the threads are stripped, you will likely need a new case tube as well, which is part 090ST4201.

The chances of finding these on the open market is likely not great, so you could send it to Omega, or to an Omega certified watchmaker, who will also have access to the parts.

Cheers, Al

Thanks for the info Archer,

I did phone an omega boutique here in London, a service included the 18ct crown replacement is 540£ which is quite expensive.
I could see a crown selling on the a website for 145£ (out of stock atm), a new case tube is around 10£ plus labour if I an independent watchmaker is doing the job. An average price for a service by an independent watchmaker here in London is around 200£+parts. Omega is charging 100£ on top of the normal service-(450£) only for the crown. So it might just be worth it to send it to omega then.

What about a replacement in stainless steel, would it be the same model as the one on the 2551.80. ? Of course it is not the original setup but would definitely save some money for the moment I guess at least for now.

Thanks,
Adriano

That it is also an option 😀, I did not think about that. The thing is that I cannot wear the watch unless I send it for repair and over 500£ is a lot of money under Christmas.

Take your time picking out your backup, which I sense has not yet happened. Hamilton is a good brand, for example.

Thank you again Archer.
Regarding the movement of the watch, it is a cal 1109, I heard it is pretty much like the 1120 but with lighter rotor that has issues, will this be as reliable as the 1120 after the service? Will Omega service this movement replacing the rotor with a better one?

The 1109 is more like the ETA 2892A2. There are many parts on the 1109 and 2892 that are not the same as the 1120. Omega will not do anything other than service it properly.

It has a reputation as being not very efficient at winding, but in my experience if it is properly serviced, it will run fine unless you are very inactive.

Ok great, good to know actually, I always thought they are pretty much the same, I guess the 1120 is better. I am right to assume that this model initially came out with the 1109 movement and was later replaced to the 1120, is the 1109 COSC certified?
Looking at the omega website for 2301.21.00 it shows mvt 1120.

Thanks again for all replies.

Yes, initially came out with the 1109, and was later changed to the 1120 - both were COSC.

Hey Archer, as an Omega Qualified Watchmaker, as you probably have seen thousands of watch movements in your career, if I can ask do you have a favourite movement?

For ease of servicing, and least amount of trouble, it would be the ETA 7750 and it's variants.
