Just some well intended guidance to a fellow watch enthusiast. After almost 3 years on OF, you must have seen posts with more information than what you have given here in your very first post. This will help you achieve better responses: What do you want to know? What do you know? Why do you want to know it (insurance, selling, repairing, buying?). I assume that "how do I remove the case back?" is one of your questions.

Right now, what I know about that watch is that I would very much like to have one like it 😉

The Art Deco decoration on the case back would seem to indicate to me, possibly 1920s. Aside from that, we need to see what is in the case, as well as what is embossed inside the case back. Help us to help you.

That case is almost certainly a snap back case. The answers to your questions will only be forthcoming once you have someone remove the case back, and get back to us with the pictures we will need in order to help.

Gold weight plus maybe $200 or so for movement and maybe a few more dollars for the “cool” factor on the case.

Pocket watches are not that desirable for collectors unless there is a major complication like a repeater.

The answer as to value is tough to answer. Right now, pocket watches are in a buyer’s market. Not a lot of demand, unfortunately. In particular, yours looks like about a 12-size, and these don’t have much of a demand. However, your’s looks to be in good condition, and the case is 14-karat gold. There could be any one of five different estimates of value. Distress: basically, a basket case. Sold for scrap. (This doesn’t apply to yours). Liquidation: Someone who desperately needs the money, and will grab at the first offer. (Again, not your watch). Secondary market wholesale: What a dealer might pay for a watch like yours. Secondary market retail: What the dealer would sell it for. (Or at least, what he’d like to sell it for). New replacement: Doesn’t apply to yours. Are you planning on offering it for sale, or do you need a valuation for insurance purposes? You’ve had one answer. Scrap value for the case, plus $200.00, plus maybe a bit for “cool” factor.
