Omega Planet ocean dies after 24 hours

Purchased a new Planet Ocean automatic(December 2014) and very rarely go a day without wearing but when I do it only runs for about 24 hours from when I take it off. I wind it every few weeks or so.

Is something wrong with the watch? I thought I would have a longer reserve than this?

Thanks for your help.

So send it to Omega and have it looked at?
Hello lake48045!

Have you attempted to fully wind it and time how long it runs for without it being worn? It could be that your daily movement isn't enough to keep it fully wound therefore resulting in a shorter power reserve. Possibly wind it every few days instead of every few weeks?

Just my initial thoughts. I prefer to try and solve issues with my own little tests if possible. However a visit to an authorized dealer or omega boutique could also be in order.

Another thought that just occurred to be is that the watch could have been magnetized causing the coils of the mainspring to stick together therefore shortening the life of the reserve. I'm pretty sure OBs and other highly competent watch makers can demagnetized it for you if need be.

Welcome to OF by the way! Hope we can help you solve your problem and we don't scare you off too quick.

Hi Jake,

Love the watch and did a lot of research on this forum before I made this purchase. I work on a computer most of the day so not sure on the activity.

I will do what you suggested and see if it helps.

Thanks,

Tom

If the watch is not magnetized, working on a computer all day could certainly be a cause of your issue! I know I have had problems before with automatic movements not winding enough throughout the day because my hands basically don't leave my keyboard sometimes.

I would assume inactivity is the main cause since op stated he is on the comp most of the time. Try manually wind it, and see how long it lasts before taking it to Omega.

If it's an 8500 sounds like the browning dlc issue with one of the barrels. I'm not too familiar with the issue. Archer can maybe chime in. If fully manually winding it and letting it sit you only get <30 hours that's may be the issue as you shoood get 60.

Easy test.

Wind the watch up fully using the crown. Place the watch on a table and write down the time. See how long the watch goes until it stops.

This is the only test to see if it is broken. Odds are you might not be moving enough to fully wind the watch.
