Omega Omegamatic question

Hi,
I have the Omegamatic watch, I purchased this watch new I think around 1997 ish. I'd have to go up into the loft and get the Box down to get the exact date.
My interest is with the serial number, which according to what I have read dates the watch to 1995. I thought the first Omegamatic watches were sold from 1997, production ending around 2000, from what I have read.
Seems odd that the serial number is 557#####

Please indicate where you obtained the serial number/date information. Many online tables are not accurate.

That serial is fine for a 1997 O-matic. I can’t tell what your lume material is but if it’s SL then it’s more like 1998, if tritium then no later then early 1997. My example had tritium and was on 55.54m

Hi Dan,

Various " date your Omega " websites.
I think the watch is from 1995. Just unusual I see production dates 97 to 2000
Best regards

Hi Padders,

I spotted another 1995 model on Chrono 24, I'm guessing these are just super early models.

And most are also focused on Speedmaster serial number ranges.

Thanks Don,

Yes I agree with that, good point.

It's hard to imagine I've owned this watch for about 27 years, time has quite literally flown by. It's been a good watch with no issues..

Best regards

Don't sell it and enjoy it. Back then omega made better clasps than rolex. A few in gold from rolex were the exception.

Hi,

It's OK, I've had the watch from new, I'll be keeping the watch. Thinking about a service though. TBH it's never been serviced from new, still hand winds lovely, and setting the time and date is still very smooth. Good oils were used when the movement was assembled. Its just a lovely watch really..

Best regards

Ian
