Omega in a box...real or fake??

I found this Omega watch in a box of my Uncle's things. I estimate this watch is from the 1950s or 1960s, but have absolutely no information on it's pedigree. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
James

That's a real Omega, we need a picture of the inside of the caseback to tell you which ref it is.
It's probably from the 60s

Wow - that's great news! How did you know? And what would you recommend to have it brought back into working order. Do folks typically send them back to Omega for that type of service?

1)looking at thousands of watches
2) a service by a quality local watch maker, where do you live? Most likely under $250.
3) don’t send it to Omega, way expensive and they tend to replace the dial and make it less valuable ( don’t ask trust us on this one)

I’m sure someone will chime in with a decent local guy. You can also try calling high end jewelers for recommendations.

Quick! Hide it now!

😉

(Jokin. I only know about Detroit from what I see on Aussie TV).

Serious now, that looks like a nice example. Do not wear it until it's been serviced or it'll be like driving a vintage car from the 1960s with no oil in the sump.

You also need to remove the stretchy bracelet as it has spring loaded ends and they can chew into the lugs. A nice leather strap or a correctly fitting bracelet would be a better option.

Looks like my seamaster. Early 60s. Possibly 63.
Modal is 165.002 and this should be on the inside of the case back. Stretch bracelets must've been a thing as mine too came with one...

I'm old enough to remember the watch bands available in jewelry stores in the 60s. Almost the only thing you could find were Spiedel. I manage to come up with a kreisler four piece bracelet, but it took a lot of looking. I'll post a photo of it later.

Interesting. I always wondered if the stretch was added years later. It could have been but from what you've said it also could have been added by the jeweller at the time of purchase. Thanks!

OK finally found someone to take a look at it...got the casebook open and took this pic. The fellow also pulled some other numbers from inside:

22,209,164
cal 552

Hopefully this offers more insight into the pedigree of the watch...?

I certainly do not want to be a spoilsport here, but the dial looks like a redial.

Otherwise it's a beautiful watch! 👍

I DO concur.

(With the last sentence that is, not the first one).

Why do all watches look like redials to you 🤦

Man, you have to stop using that uneducated comment. If you don’t know 100% don’t comment

Do some research and show comparisons before you make this call again.

Implied on my post but I see my vagueness.

I concur with you! I’m with Jim looks like an original dial to me.

The dial looks good. The watch needs a new crystal. If the gold plating hasn't worn through, it will polish up very nicely. I vote for a nice medium brown Croc band.

BTW 22xxxxxx puts the watch at 1965
Curious, I thought one SWISS T dials were earlier.

Me thinks it may be a redial. OR the crystal is distorting the SWISS MADE T

I think you see them at this period. Also note the spacing it’s a single T.

@JimInOz @STANDY @Foo2rama :

I will check once again and be back later on. And I'll apologize if I'm wrong.

In the meantime, tell me where I said redial though it wasn't.
