Real or fake?

I am just getting started into the vintage space but am really afraid of getting lied on whether the watch is authentic.

From the eyes of experts here, can anyone help tell me if this watch is real or fake?

p.s. I know it’s difficult from the dial and the back case alone. But any expert opinion will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

You’re right to be suspicious about poor photos, particularly with black dials.

You should ask for better photos and movement photos.

I won’t comment on the dial but the crown looks wrong.

I quite like the engraving on the back although, again, I wish it were clearer.

The engraving generally reduces the value of a watch unless Rudolf Hauser is or was someone famous.

You don’t mention the asking price.

Sometimes, you just have to buy the seller and take a leap of faith but, it’s impossible to say anything about the watch itself without more information and photos.

Good luck

Agree. The photo isn’t good enough to assess the dial. The watch is genuine but a more common question with vintage watches is “is the dial original or repainted” as has a huge impact on collectability and value

I doubt that a company would buy a fake Seamaster for a presentation watch, and I also doubt any faker would go to the trouble of engraving the details on the caseback, so in that regard, the watch is genuine.

As to the original finish of the dial, much better photos are needed.

Most likely legit, but we can't tell you whether the dial is original.

So I looked up the watch model and was able to find a something similar on eBay.

Listing name:
OMEGA SEAMASTER AUTOMATIC 14700 1 SC CAL552 BLACK DIAL MEN'S WATCH

For those asking, the price is priced at $550 AUD.

Pretty sure that's a repainted dial, which explains the low asking price. In fact, given how little he is asking, I suspect that the seller indicates that the dial is "restored" or something like that. With an original black dial, the value would probably be 3x the asking price.

Ahhhhh, thank you for the helpful insight. I am assuming the seller is aware of the repainted dial but chose not to disclose it in this case.

Such a good learning experience from this forum since everybody’s being so helpful.

Thank you to everyone who’s helped out! 😀
