Hello there members Have inherited a watch from my grandfather, its been laying in his safe for many years,I have lately been getting more interested in watches and the other day he gave me this Omega to keep. Is it possible by pictures to identify it roughly without removing back? Will be going to a watchstore in town and check what condition it is in and what that may needs service. Seems like its pretty clean under the glass and in good running condition but glass is somewhat scratched, hard to take photo without all scratches showing and outside of watch is somewhat dirty of all years just being stuffed away.
That is a beautiful watch with lots of interesting details. Original tuxedo dial, twisted lugs, stainless steel case and probably the original crown as well. From the pics it looks like it could be a reference 2791 from the first half of the 1950’s. Congrats
Nice watch, but please don’t rush and take this to any old mall watch/battery changing stall It needs to go to a real watchmaker who knows what they are doing with vintage watches. This watch will lose a lot of value if it’s polished, or if the dial and the hands are changed etc
Yes I really like it too, thanks for info. I will let them open up back at service and check what it says to be sure. Is there such thing as new original glass or can original be restored maybe? Now time to search for matching strap
No my plan is to keep it as it is,will choose watchmaker wisely, everything but glass looks really good
I could swear we just had another new member with a really similar watch. A 2639 reference. Ah yes, here it is, but not exactly the same obviously: https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-bullseye-ref-2639-2-input-needed-authenticity.140426/
Beautiful watch! If I remember correctly, neither 2639 reference nor 2791 have waterproof on the caseback, so in this case it would be interesting check the reference engraved inside.
Up for grabs was also this Seamaster 30,but I decided that one watch was enough for now, also a beauty but in more need of attention. I think this is the right decision
If nobody else wants that black Seamaster, you should probably take it, it will probably clean up well. Black dials aren't easy to find and someday you might want to fix it up. Just put it aside for now. If it's a choice of one or the other, then it's a matter of personal taste.
I will take it,just need to sort out this first. Kinda like these black ones, now continue searching for a black strap, any suggestions?
The OP watch is a nice one, congrats. But I am now just a bit confused about the provenance. If just me, sorry!
Well feel no sorrow,to feed your thoughts he even has his 30 year of service watch in that safe in gold, but I dont want that sort of watch, this one is more of my taste, damn these beers and thoughts
