Omega Geneve Ref. 131.019

My quest to find my first vintage omega has brought me to this. I like the simple looking dial but wonder what your thoughts are. You've been very helpful with you opinions any advice is greatly appreciated.

I noticed that there are two reference numbers on the inside of the case. On other watches, I've only ever noticed one. Would I be correct in thinking that this is because the cases are identical to models that would have a date feature and therefore a different reference number or is this a red flag?

Thanks

Googling further, I found this which may also be relevant:

“Some of the watches of that vintage were dual labeled in the caseback as 132.019 and 131.019. 132.019 is the date version, and 131.019 is the non-date 601 version. It's likely the caseback has been replaced, at the least. In any case, it's not a 132.019, for sure. “

That, along with the unusual markers, would be enough to put me off on this one

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. So Omega put two reference numbers in there... it's not the first time, and it's not the last.

Mind you, at £549 it’s overpriced for a handwind Omega, even with a nice case and dial.

I like the simple looking dial

"classic" looking dial... :whipped:

I kid, I have one of these. This example is in reasonable shape but I think you could get one in better condition and for a cheaper price.

In the recent past, I have seen a few Geneves similar to this in the sales forum, if this is the one you want, you are better off being patient and keeping an eye on the OF sales forum.

Please forgive me and thank you for putting me straight. What a silly thing to say! 🤦

Once again, thank you for the feedback, it is appreciated. I'll certainly be snooping the sales forum and hopefully my patience holds.

I am a huge fan of the simple Omega, manual wind watches from the 1960's. This is a nice example. I do find Chrono24 prices on the high side, but you can always offer lower.

Personally I wouldn’t pay £550 for this example but I think it’s important people understand the UK watch market when commenting on prices.

The fact is vintage watches in the UK are significantly higher than other areas such as the states. As a rough rule of thumb, if the market value of a watch in the US is $500, it’s UK value will be £500, not £365 or whatever the actual currency conversion is.

How interesting, I didn't know that. I wonder what it would be like in terms of price when you compare the UK market to the EU market.

It used to be broadly similar, however, the Brexit scandal coupled with the super keen HMRC means prices in the UK are now a bit higher than the EU as we essentially have to pay 25-30% import duty on everything from outside the UK (obviously this wasn’t the case previously with EU purchases).

Just to confirm that I am in the UK 😉
