Omega Geneve Dynamic - DAY not working

Hi there,

So I just had my father’s Geneve Dynamic serviced. It was working before but was sitting in a draw off for 20 years.

It was working once I managed to start it but the crystal was badly scratched.

Anyway, decided to give it to an Omega specialist here in Sydney, Australia. It clearly needed a service.

So it was there for 10 or so weeks.

Finally picked it up after paying $1100AUD. I noticed the crystal wasn’t pushed all the way down to the lip…I can fit my fingernail in the gap.

I also saw that the DAY doesn’t work correctly. Close to midnight, the date ticks over but on the first day after picking it up from service it was only at 10am that it ticked over to the next DAY. It started to move at 10pm the previous day was was stuck 2/3rds over for several hours.

The next day, it didn’t move until 10pm, and when it hit midnight it was still stuck on the previous day.

Does anyone know what might be going on? I called the watchmaker who serviced it and he said it might be the day wheel that has worn out, making it change the DAY more slowly.

Really confused and the watchmaker can’t do anything…not really satisfied after paying for a full service. I also notice that the day wheel has two Tuesdays one after each other. Is that normal?

Watch keeps time and date is also fine - ticks over just on/after midnight.

I hope this makes sense…sorry if it is very confusing.

Thank you!

I'm in Sydney as well. Can I ask who did the service? That amount of money seems a lot to be paying for such a poor job. The watch should be working perfectly after a service.

Some watchmakers will tell you that it's too hard to find parts, so they won't fix watches properly. And if they tried to make excuses instead of asking you to bring it back for further repair, that's not a good sign. It's unfortunate that you've already paid that watchmaker so much money, but you might need to find another watchmaker and pay again if you want to get it working correctly.

I’ll PM you. I was told the whole time the mechanism was running perfect. Every week they said “it’ll be ready next week” etc. Had another quote locally for $2000AUD to fix it. So I figured $1100 for a service was pretty good. The way I see it, a standard service for any Swiss automatic watch with a few features would cost min. $950.

When I picked it up it was showing the correct day, date and time, so I had no thoughts that there was any issue. Will see how I go with getting this issue fixed.
