I was left the Omega above by Father it has a message engraved on the back from 1966. It seems genuine in all ways keeps great time and is self winding the only issue is that besides the normal Omega printing it has Cartier printed at the bottom of the face. Has anyone heard of this before and how do I check if it is a genuine Omega ?

Can you post some pictures mate? If its Cartier that’s not unheard of.

Is the top right lug bent or is that just the angle from the photo? It’s hard to tell sometimes on these DeVilles I’ve seen photos that make it look like the lug is bent at a huge angle but the watch turns out to be perfect.

Condition wise I’d call it very raw but not terrible, given its a family member’s watch that you probably want to keep, the movement is likely to be quite serviceable, the case needs just a cleaning (assuming the lug isn’t bent, if it is, it might need bending back carefully). The crystal makes it look bad but its a wear and tear part that you just replace and isn’t too expensive.

It would be an Omega watch. Some times jewelry stores would also put their names on the dials. There were also a fair number of watches that had corporate logos added. Usually for watches that were given out as anniversary gifts for years of service.

If you pick up some Poly watch from Amazon you might be able to clean up the crystal a little. It’s cheap and would give you a much better look at the dial. It would allow for some better photos too.

In the end, if you want to keep the watch you need to have it serviced. If you wanted to sell the watch I’d just polish up the crystal with poly watch, don’t bother spending the money servicing it before selling it.

in the 1970s, there were special orders from Cartier to Omega. models can be Constellation or Seamaster.

It reminds me of those HP printers sold by Apple in the early 90s.

your watch is perfectly legitimate.

Bearing in mind it does not have the original back as it was removed to have one that could be engraved

the Cartier inscription brings no added value.
if the back is not original, it lowers the price.
the watch is worth a few hundred euros (400€ max?)

I think these deVilles are seriously undervalued by the market as they are supercool watches. I bought one in 1989 and love them as much now as I did then. The double branding is also very cool on your watch. If the lug is bent, it can be straightened by someone who knows what they are doing...there is a video on Hodinkee of a Tudor having its bullet damaged lug straightened.

Do you have a picture of the back? It cannot have been removed as it’s a unishell case. However, some of these came with plain cases to allow an engraving so I assume this is one of those.

I actually think this would carry a slight premium over a comparable Seamaster DeVille 166.020. Possibly 20%. The issue here is that the crown is wrong a more importantly the 1 o’clock lug is bent. That’s going to seriously hurt the value

So strange. It definitely appeared bent on the other pics. As someone else said, this must be a common thing with certain phone cameras as I’ve seen several Devilles that appeared to have the same fault.

It’s hard to be certain as the pic is blurred but your back looks original.
