Hello all !

My brother recently bought this vintage Omega De Ville Automatic for around $500, and he is now a bit worried that he may have made a mistake.

We know the watch is not in mint condition, and we understand that it has some age-related wear. 🕒

However, we would really appreciate your opinions on whether this was a fair purchase for the price.

From the photos, it appears to be an Omega De Ville Automatic, with a caliber 1002 movement. The watch has a textured silver dial, date window at 3 o’clock, and a cushion/TV-style case.

(He’s already seen the rust on the stem; he’s aware of it and doesn’t mind. )

I would be grateful if you could help with a few questions:
Does the watch look authentic to you?
Does the dial look original, or does it show signs of being refinished/redialed?
Are there any red flags or issues you notice from the photos?
Was $500 a reasonable price for this watch in its current condition?⌚

Any feedback, observations, or things to watch out for would be very helpful. My brother is not expecting a perfect watch, but he would like to know if the purchase was generally reasonable or if there are serious concerns. 👋🏼⌚

Thank you very much in advance for your time and expertise.

I see nothing to be concerned about, $500 for it is a pretty solid deal. Based on that stem, you'll want to service it ASAP, but at $500 he's ahead. Thats a cool looking dial, and appears original.

Does the watch look authentic to you? Yes
Does the dial look original, Yes
Are there any red flags or issues you notice from the photos? Just the rusty stem
Was $500 a reasonable price for this watch in its current condition? Yes
Answers above.

Note that the reference number indicates:
1 = Gents Watch
6 = Self Winding Centre Second
2 = Non-Water-Resistant Calendar

It would be wise to keep it away from water. A service may be in order depending on the state of the lubricants etc.
