Omega D6694: Poorly cared for or fake?

Hi guys, I am a complete novice to vintage watches and know absolutely nothing. My FIL gave me this watch he got from some type of estate sale or auction. On first glance, I noticed the word OMEGA looks badly written, especially the E and G look completely off and make me think its a fake, along with the apparent discoloration around the band, which I cant tell if or if not it is due to the band dye wearing off. However upon further inspection, I dont see any tell tale signs on the INSIDE that the watch is fake, and the deep scratches on the back of the case dont seem to reveal any base metal. since the marking seem to be right and the movement is copper coated.
In the end, I need help with this! Hopefully to someone on this forum its authenticity is obvious, any opinions?
Thank you!

Poorly cared and a redial
Thank you! Any advice to clean it up the right way? I dont mind the redial although the dials dont look great.

A little effort with a jewelers cloth should shine it up, but that dial is horrible.
