I initially thought @Peemacgee was hinting the case had been refinished. Those lugs do look very sharp more so than you see on earlier doglegs. I’ve not seen enough of these to pass judgment.
The case looks great. Shame about those nibbles, but imagine the person going for this will get that nibble sorted somehow
For those watching this, item went down back down to £700, now at £1080! Being discussed on FB group a buyer withdraw his bids as he believes the item is counterfeit and full of replacement parts (incorrect crown)
No doubt he/she thinks it’s also a put together watch, with a replacement movement and the dial configuration was all messed up when it was redialled .....
This reference is still flies under the radar. OP, I think the crown on the watch you posted is original to the watch as these came with different crowns than earlier versions. I have two of the flat dial variation of this reference... my wife appropriated my first so I had to hunt one for myself. Both came from Japan and I would highly recommend snagging one if you can find one. Personally, I prefer the flat gray dial on the wrist over my pie pan. Here is mine on ref 2054 bracelet that it came with. (Unsure if the bracelet is original to watch)
I think the flat dial versions are even less common than the pie pans. Interesting that the flat dial has a printed rather than applied ‘Omega’ @bloomy do you know the serial number on your watch? I’ll add this link to an old thread as it features more watches plus @Martinibianco seemed to have cornered the market back in 2015 https://omegaforums.net/threads/incoming-168-0065.29234/
Jump in a time machine and take a baseball bat to the fkwit who did it. Alternatively, live with it, or a spot of laser-welding might do the trick (For this watch, the expense would be worth it IMHO)
Haha I’m not going for this now. Too risky. Just wanted to know for any other vintage pieces that might come up with damaged lugs. Thanks
@Peemacgee , I am unsure of either serial #. I am too lazy to take off the caseback right now but I am going to take mine in for a service once my sm120 is ready from my watchmaker, so I will circle back with both serial #'s. And for those who don't "read" posts w/o photos here is a turrible photo I snagged of his and hers.
Maybe there something wrong with me but I really dont care if there's a couple of nibbles on the inside of a right lug. It's not like I'm wearing a watch with a loope looking at the lugs. So keep things in perspective and if you like a watch just buy the damn thing! Even if it has nipples (ehh, I mean nibbles!)...
There’s another one up for sale in the UK. VERY RARE 1970’S VINTAGE OMEGA CONSTELLATION PIE PAN 168.0065 CAL.1011 Price is even higher that the one that started this thread. They are selling for more than the larger Ref 168.005’s now. I predicted this to Desmond way back when he wrote his first article on this reference back in 2006 when we only knew of 3 or 4 examples. Now there are 3 to 4 examples per month showing up on sales forums and auction sites. Amazing. gatorcpa
