Arrived Wednesday to compliment my 168.005. All the way from Japan (thanks to Andrew who posted back in July that he had it and was thinking of selling)
Very pleased with the condition and I love the look - the 'PiePan' being slightly flatter in profile. It's different but not that different if you see what I mean?
Couple of observations and then a question.
On listening to the .005 with the 564 cal there is a distinct 'tick' whereas with the 0065 1011 movement it is very quiet and less of a 'tick'. The 0065 is also a lot easier to wind with the round crown as opposed to the decagonal crown from the earlier model.
Q - It has only one spring loaded pin for the strap, the lower seems to be fixed. I'm presuming that this is because the watch originally came with a SS bracelet? - Images I have seen (Desmonds blog) show both being removable.
    Suggestions? IMG_3238.jpg

    Nice pair!

I love the look of the 168.0065, the location of the "Officially Certified" reminds me of some of the early 1950s chronometers, Seamaster chronometers and even some of the earliest Constellations. They also had the text "low slung" like this.

:) yes sorry I will post (short) back and sides later. Movement shot might be a bit more difficult.
I'm heading into the city to see a watch Man this afternoon who may be able to help.
A 'jeweller' that I popped into yesterday to see about a strap suggested cutting the non spring bar out! I think my face must have said it all on my hasty retreat from the shop!!
I think I shall have to look for a glued watch strap for that side?

image.jpg image.jpg Seems as though a fixed bar had been fitted at some point and the first jeweller was correct in saying it would have to be cut out. (Sorry for doubting you Mr Jeweller man)
Anyway all done without any tears and a new ( for the time being) Hirsch strap fitted.

Nice one mactab! I love the 168.0065 with its interesting history and slightly quirky look (no star). Enjoy wearing it. Mine says HI!

The bar you cut out was probably a spring bar but one that was designed to be pushed through a hole drilled in the lugs. Hate those.

    Paul,
I'm so glad that you are happy with the watch and I think it looks great with the strap!

    Hi Andrew,
    Are you back?
I'm wearing them alternate weeks (wife hasn't noticed yet) even though different strap colours. Black and Dark Brown.
Hopefully will be serviced before end of next month but couldn't resist getting a strap put on so it can be worn in the meantime.
    Thanks again
    Paul

PS keep me informed if you come across anything else interesting in the S/S piepan range.

    Hi! Nice collection of 0065’s!
I wanna ask about connie on the right side (the gold, not piepan dial). Is that coming with two stamp number with ref. 168.0065 / 168.865 ? Do you have source or link that describe about that specific reference number (history, etc) ?
    Thank you for your information!

    I don't think I've ever seen 168.865 listed anywhere.
(I don't think its in Desmond's list or the OVDB)
It's possible that Omega used this designation to define the later dogleg with 'flat' dial, in the same way that they used 168.015/168.025 to define pie-pan/flat dial in the earlier monocoque case.

I suspect that if the later dogleg pie pans are considered uncommon, then the flat dial versions are even more uncommon.

here is a sales link to a SS version (in Japan)
