There’s another one up for sale in the UK.

VERY RARE 1970’S VINTAGE OMEGA CONSTELLATION PIE PAN 168.0065 CAL.1011

Price is even higher that the one that started this thread.

They are selling for more than the larger Ref 168.005’s now.

I predicted this to Desmond way back when he wrote his first article on this reference back in 2006 when we only knew of 3 or 4 examples.

Now there are 3 to 4 examples per month showing up on sales forums and auction sites.

Amazing.

3 or 4 a month? That's a bit high IMO. They do show up regulary but I still call them uncommon.

There’s a third one on eBay right now:

Overpriced, but there you are.

Yes, I know a couple more on local sales but still I dont think 36 or 48 of them pop up every year (especially in good and affordable condition). Everyday I'm doing my usual ebay constellation round around the world and I dont see these often. So whatever everbody says, I CALL THEM UNCOMMON! 😉And the one for half the price is not attractive (too much dial damage) so not in the same league as the OP's...

Another one for sale on REDDIT $1200, which seems reasonable

Just ended at £1900, a bit too rich for me when you factor in a service on top.
Good luck to whoever bought it though, I’m jealous.....

Great watch. Huge price to pay IMO. Seller must be rubbing their hands

A very nice watch and would be nice to have in the collection as an ‘outlier’ -and I was genuinely considering going for it before I saw the damage to the lug (only important because the rest of the case was so damned good) but all in all, I can think of a lot more Constellations I’d rather spend a couple of grand on.

I think you can still buy a house in Batley for £1,900 @chunkythebulldog ?

The centre piece of the town is the Batley bats (should be sponsored by Bacardi....)

I would not worry too much for the sole individual who won. I can report I do actually know the person and have inspected the watch myself. I disagree with the listing description saying the watch is in 'mint' condition. The watch has been inspected by a handful of very well informed individuals on vintage omegas and I can confirm the 'nibbles' as one described are present on the lug as posted in the photo. I suspect this occurred when someone tried to remove the strap unsuccessfully. I think this is a matter of character given the watch is >40yrs old, I personally don't have a problem with it, as the case has never been polished and I encouraged the new owner to leave as is. I can report of those who have looked at the piece all agree the case and case back are genuine, the dial is genuine and not repainted, the crystal is genuine, the movement and hands, genuine however some question did remain with the crown as I am aware of a least 4 versions of the omega styled crown on this model for the Japan market. Finally, all agreed the leather strap and buckle including box was genuine as well. I will admit the price was high but show me another 168.0065 with the original leather strap, I've never seen another example other than a drawing. I also understand the UK seller bought the watch from a dealer in Japan. At the end of the day, it is not possible to say this watch is exactly as it was when it left the factory and this is true with many vintage watches but you would have to agree it is an amazing find and a lovely example of the Constellation 168.0065. I can't say it is 100% genuine but I do feel the sale price is fair for what you get. But at the end of the day, do your own research and be comfortable with it.

I’m glad he left the movement shot. Nothing like a nice movement shit.
Bummer when auto-correct craps out 😉

Good that we get a detailed first hand report from someone who has held the watch in hand - thank you @Horai551

Whilst the watch may not be deemed mint, I think the damage to the lug stands out because the rest of the watch is in such good condition.

Regarding the crown, all the ones that appear on OF appear to be the knurled crown with a slight dome as per the OP watch.
It would certainly add to the knowledge of the forum if you could describe the four variations you refer to.
