Omega Chronostop Driver Question

Hi! New to the forum.

I acquired an Omega Chronostop Driver watch off of eBay for a pretty good price I feel. I should have done more research before purchasing it, but after receiving it and then doing more research, I’m worried about the dial’s authenticity.

It seems to be pretty restored looking and the radial time markings around the edges do not seem to be the same as any of them I’ve seen in images through research. It also seems the be missing the Swiss Made text on the bottom between the two T’s.

I’m wondering if it’s maybe some aftermarket replacement of it was restored with the incorrect markings printed on.

Everything else seems to be correct (aside from the base being a little too polished which is also bothersome).

I was wondering what people’s thoughts are and if somebody maybe has a spare Chronostop dial that they would like to sell? Thanks so much!

Second hand is wrong, not too sure about the other hands either, they are usually painted. Dial lume does look blobby but could legit, or reapplied. Now you mention it, the index ring does look wrong too so yes I do think it is a redial.

Hello, while I’m new here, the first thing I noticed in the image, like padders, was the second hand. I’ve been looking at Chronostops myself and, on at least all the driver models, the second hand is essentially shaped like a VERY elongated triangle. All the models I’ve looked like this.

I’ve attached an image that I got from http://www.old-omegas.com/chronostop.html#145007

Yeah, looks like I took a risk on this one without the proper research and it’s a mishmash of a bunch of different parts.

I attached a few more pics. It was pretty much a buy at your own risk situation on the eBay auction so I don’t think I can return it. The seller didn’t know the history of it and sold it as is.

Well you just paid what we call a "noob tax". The cost of learning the hard way. To return this watch to a almost original condition will most likely put you over the value of the watch. If it were mine... I would source an original sweep second hand and call it good. In the mean time keep your eye out for a used "driver dial'. These dials are different than the regular chronostop dials in that the pins on the reverse side are in a different location due to the position of the 12:00. You could go for a case refinishing ($350 maybe). Problem is where to stop.

PS crown is wrong too

Very true! I should know better because I collect other brands and am usually a pretty good researcher. I think I was a little too intrigued by the “cool factor” of the driver series and jumped on it as my first Omega.

I’m thinking about putting it back on eBay and disclosing it’s issues as to not mislead anybody.

I am still looking for a proper Chronostop if anybody has one for sale or any leads! Thanks for the quick feedback and the help.

Best,
Ben
