I'm considering purchasing this watch that's just arrived from my 'dealer'.

Omega Genéve Chronostop.
Reference: 146.009
Year: 1969
Cal: 920
Movement: Automatic
Jewels: 17
Original Branded Crystal

Sale price is €620

I'm not too familiar with these watches but love the look of it. Everything seems in good order but when I hit the Chronostop button it ticks away but doesn't stop at the point I stop it at. Instead it returns itself to 12:00... is that normal behavior? I would have expected it to stop at the point I stopped it at on the first press and return to 12 on the second press.

Anyway, as usual all help and advice before I buy is greatly appreciated. If you'd be so kind to let me know your thoughts on this piece I'd be greatly indebted. Thanks in advance!

That’s the reason it’s sometimes referred to as the most senseless Chrono Omega ever produced… Still, a funky piece. When you hit the pusher to stop, the Chrono hand will stay in that position for as long as you keep pushing the pusher. Memorize its position before you release it. But honestly, it isn’t about the functionality, really.

Thanks @MtV that is kind of absurd but honestly I won't be timing anything with this so I think I'll be OK. Other than that is it looking in good shape? Thanks for your answers

Looks OK to me and price is OK too IMHO. Fun to wear but not particularly practical as a timer as already said.

the only thing i note on this one is that the crystal has been replaced with a domed model while they shipped with a flat crystal with a fairly pronounced edge, but other than that I think this one looks like a fine example and I sometimes wish I had held out for a more colourful variation myself.

Mine also says hello

Hi
Very nice example, I like it. The date you give however is a bit early for a chronostop(they only came out in 1968). Instead of a 20 mill serial number can it be 28(sometimes hard to see on the numbers)? That would fit better with it being a 1969 model.

Regards
Chris

@Biezmez yes! You’re right, I misread the serial it’s a 288 serial. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it.

I also vote to bring on the funk. Every variant of the Chronostop is more an oddball than the last, but they are really appealing to own and wear. Looks like a good buy and a color that will be a huge amount of fun to add to your wardrobe.

Crazy question, I know, but is it OK to leave the Chronostop hand running like a regular seconds hand?

Hi again
Yep, that's not a problem at all to use it as a seconds hand.

Awesome in every aspect!

I love the Chronostops. Such a beautiful watch, wear it in good health as I sit in envy.
