Dear Forum,

I have a 1968 Seamaster, 165.002 and have been researching Omega buckles, I have read the threads a couple of times and wondered if the experts could give their opinion on whether the below looks genuine? Prices around £60. Not sure if the "B" is in the same direction as the Omega.

As always manby thanks in advance,
Dave

Looks fine to me. The B is for Banda, the contract manufacturer. Fairly typical.

Thanks for the input Tom does the price of around £60 sound reasonable too?

It's not bad. As mentioned, it's more 80s than 60s.

I’m on the lookout for a 16mm buckle myself but find it hard to justify paying that kind of money (or more!) for a tiny bit of stainless steel. I’m in two minds about whether to just buy a new modern 16mm genuine omega buckle or a reproduction “vintage” one and TBH I’m erring towards the latter. Just a random thought.

Good luck with your search regardless!

I ended up buying the one below. Also same measurements. It is for my 1944 bumper. Not period correct but the best I could do in gold with nice Omega logo.

1944 buckle would not have a logo. Those weren’t used until approximately late 50s.

I have had a good read of the thread above a few times and have had a decent peruse of buckles on eBay (lots of immatations) so just got to be careful. I'd love a stainless steel one from the 60's to match my Seamaster but not in a rush so will keep trawling.

This was the other buckle I was looking at which seems to align to 1960's based on the thread I have been looking at on buckles...engravings looks right too.

I know. But at least it is vintage and I like the logo on a buckle.

Hi Dave,

I warned you this is how the disease starts. 😀

That’s about the right period I would say.

Hope your still enjoying the watch.

Hi Roy,

You were definitely right! I am hooked! I am loving researching.

Absolutely am enjoying the watch, it was supposed to be for best, but I can't stop wearing it!

Now you're one down, maybe time for a new Connie Piepan?! 😉

Cheers,
Dave

I have been looking at those too but I have come to the conclusion that they are fake. The upper part of the Omega is too thick, the angle of the tang is wrong and the spring bar is of course nothing like the original.

Yep and also probably too cheap to be genuine...we need a nice NOS seller/genuine stock seller for buckles patience is the key for us whilst searching 😀

Afternon OF,

I just thought I would update, I picked this buckle up, using what I have hopefully learned from the bukles thread on here it looks like it could be genuine and in anycase even if not I love it on my Seamaster so I am happy as I tihnk it looks like a great addition and didn't cost me the earth (£20) (although probably won't mention that to the other half she would be shocked) 😁 just thought I would share as I am still loving my Seamaster and learning as I go .
