I think OB really MUST care about the overall boutique experience. If they don't, who will not prefer to go to AD and get a discount? I remember when first boutique opened in my home country. At first, I could not imagine they could sell a single watch with no discount policy when people were used of having from 10 to 20% discount in reputable ADs. Now I see that with great customer experience, they can be quite successful. I decided to buy some watches from them even tough i knew i could buy it cheaper somewhere else.

Good customer service goes a long way, many people will gladly pay the full price if they are treated with respect. Many years ago when I lived in northern NJ I would travel in to the City for watch looking and buying. There is one store on Madison Ave that sells high end watches and at the time they were one of the few dealers for Lange. Somehow we got talking about discounts and the owner said they have many customers that don't give a whit about discounts, if they like it they just buy it at full price whereas I was always looking for a good discount (and he always gave me 15 to 20 percent, free shipping and no tax). It all depends on the clientele and the service you provide. An establishment won't offer a discount if they think you are going to buy at full price, and this policy seems to work for all the boutiques that these manufacturers operate. Maybe the volume is less but is made up in the price structure.
