I absolutely LOVE my Apollo 11 45th!

While I do like the looks of the Alaska Project, I don't think it possesses the necessary "wow" factor to get me to pay current asking prices.

Naah...Just Kidding [emoji3] You already know the answer....in a Non Omega Forum you would be right but here , the good folks & RJ of Fratello Watches are very passionate about their Speedmasters- Non LE & LE

Sorry to post it here, but there are a number of good folks here who are interested in straps for their watches, so i'm trying to seek advice on the topic of after market straps. Hope it is allowable/acceptable to ask for advice here!

i have a Rolex Milgauss Green Glass that i no longer wear much. i'm thinking of breathing new life to that piece by changing it from the standard provided stainless bracelet to a particularly attractive custom strap.

this is my initial thought (please see pictures):

croco or similar skin strap, with green stitching on both sides to coordinate and pull the green glass "in".

Or, orange stitching on the same croco or similar skin strap in order to pull the ORANGE SECONDS hand's color in. Might the orange stitching (instead of the green) be a bit too much? gaudy? or would it be great/fun?

I'm also very open to other ideas.

kindly note that as i have a number of other watches, i do not want this Milgauss to be particularly elegant or business-like. It's a sports watch and it ought to be fun, yet has a subtle elegance to the final design of the strap. some of the overly blatant straps are a bit overdone (very subjective, very personal, of course), and some others are overly plain, bordering on being boring. I don't want a boring strap that i have to pay additional for - i already have the standard included stainless bracelet! So this new strap should add some additional value.

May I ask what you all think, please?

Thanks.

I think that black strap with orange stitching looks quite nice on the Mil. I don't think a NATO would work too well but that's up to individual taste.

A special watch. If you like it, get it. Could do worse while spending more.

My orange strap as seen above was cool for about a week or two, then it felt like a carnival on my wrist and it bothered me because it no longer felt like a Rolex. I then switched it to a black carbon fiber with green stitching, and I love it and have had it this way since probably February. Both bands were eBay 16-18 dollar purchases and seem fairly strong and nice. Also bought the Omega style (non branded) clasp just because it is my favorite type rather than a buckle. Hope this helps, but it works well for me.

not mine but what it could look like on a perlon. (don't mean to add to the off topic disc)

Thank you for the various options shown here!

It's tough to have something that has a nice kick to it, yet look elegantly sporty. So easy to fall into the trap of making it look a bit gaudy.

The fine line is to make it something really nice and sharp, yet still elegant in a sporty way. Tough!

this piece turns up so rarely for a relatively speaking quite large production number. Collectors really seem to love them. I remember looking for mine was chaotic. Ended up racking up a stupidly high phone bill calling everywhere in the world to find one. I refuse to buy from chrono24 etc. I was extremely fortunate, transportation was tricky but we got there in the end. Recently their prices seem to have gone through the roof. Whenever I do hear of one selling privately it's often at the €8,000 +- €1,000. Nuts! Happy I got mine when I did 😀. I would have definitely paid over retail if I couldn't get it at list. Not so sure I would have gone up to €8/9,000 though...

Found a NOS piece today.

I tend to think that NOS is New, Unsold, Stock... rather than sold (donut looks like it's been in a sunny shop window, but that could be the lighting in the photo), and with a different strap fitted...

This looks like just very good condition, rather than new, unsold stock. 😉

€8,000! Blimey these have shot up!

I bought mine back in October for £5,250 and thought that I might have paid a bit over the odds. Looks like a good idea now!

Hi all,

I've come across an Omega Alaska Project which is second hand but unworn. It is like new with the box, papers and everything that came with it originally. It is sold by a local shop which in general sells as well new TAGs, Zeniths etc. So as far as I am aware it is reputable place even though I did not have any dealings with them in the past. My question is what would be considered an ok price for such a watch. I know it is hard to tell when it comes to a watch like this, since there are not many on offer around and it is difficult to check online.

They claim it is collectible and offer it for 5200 GBP. Does this seem ok or a bit expensive?
Anything else I should check or ask them since this would be my very first luxury watch?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Did you ended up buying it?
