Hi all, I've come across an Omega Alaska Project which is second hand but unworn. It is like new with the box, papers and everything that came with it originally. It is sold by a local shop which in general sells as well new TAGs, Zeniths etc. So as far as I am aware it is reputable place even though I did not have any dealings with them in the past. My question is what would be considered an ok price for such a watch. I know it is hard to tell when it comes to a watch like this, since there are not many on offer around and it is difficult to check online. They claim it is collectible and offer it for 5200 GBP. Does this seem ok or a bit expensive? Anything else I should check or ask them since this would be my very first luxury watch? Thanks in advance for your answers.
Hey @kapsopod. Welcome to the forums. You could check eBay sold values, but as you say, these don't turn up all that often. The last RRP at Omega was around the £3750 mark from memory - unless you get really lucky and find one in a Boutique, you're going to be paying whatever the market dictates. Checkout the sales section of this forum, a couple have sold in the last year, and have the prices still on. Obviously at a dealer you're always going to pay more... and £5200 doesn't sound insane... just... retail plus a bit. Cheers Chris
They have gone up recently but that does seem a bit expensive. About 18 months ago I passed one up at half that price
That would have been a great deal... these are an odd bird... on paper, awesome, but in practice, all that stuff in the box that you're paying extra for, and never going to make use of... you have to REALLY want one.
Love the watch! Price seems a bit high to me as well. I was searching for these all over before picking one up recently. I believe ~$6000USD +/- seems to be the range these days full set.
I was trying to figure out a way to leave with it, but it was too big to hide. After wearing yours, I think I have to move the Alaska up a few notches in my wish list.
It does have a certain allure to it. Once you have one you wonder what took so long to add it to the mix.
Paid 7k$ for a nib one incl coffin, tag, etc still wrapped. Yes, expensive but worth it to me. Omega still sells the white Velcro (and the donut, if you insist), I'll get one and wear it eventually.
