There
No one gets memes anymore, even the non-spicy ones.

Sorry for triggering you but you took me seriously when I claimed there's scientific evidence that there are no women on the Internet? Why are people offended by everything and anything these days, even things that can't get past basic logic?
are no real men on the internet either

I mean he has to try to sell that line, given what Heuer did with the Autavia. I don't buy his logic that direct re-issues destroys the vintage collectors market though, nor do I really buy the idea that a brand like Tag or Omega would really care about that anyway, since they never see any of that money.

1. The 60th speedy doesn't compete with a 2915. One is 7k. One is +150k. It's an entirely different scope of collecting. No one is out there trying to decide if they want to drop 150k on an original, or spend 7 to get the re-issue. They're probably just buying both if they're in that position anyway. With the other two the difference in price isn't quite as drastic, but I think the point stands. If anything, I'd say that these re-issues would get a new generation of enthusiasts excited about the 1957 models, and maybe push the prices for the original railmasters and sm300s up a bit.

2. When you spend 150k on a 2915, omega doesn't get any of that. Even if selling these dropped the values of originals (again, not convinced), why would omega care? Assuming this LE sells out, they're making ~23 million on each individual LE (3557 x 6.5k (ish)), and another ~11 million on the boxed sets (20k x 557). So that's around 80 million dollars for omega, vs your 2915 depreciating slightly. Easy decision to make from their perspective.
I do think there are some people that can afford a 150k 2915, but to whom 150k isn't nothing, and are happy to get this 7k version instead. I know that this watch has removed any chance of me buying a 2915 in the future. I think it's a small subset of collectors so I think it's a relatively small effect on the value of the vintage models. I think most watch lovers prefer the truer reissues. When Tudor released new monte Carlos several years ago it boosted the value of the originals, but I could never see myself owning and wearing a new one of those when the originals were so much cooler

But as a husband and a father of a beautiful girl, the above piece of alternative fact offended me. And for the first time in my short tenure here on watch forums, I feel compelled to call someone out, albeit against my wife's better judgement.

It's not so much the severity of the comment, but the ease in which you dish them out. We are about watches, not gender. Tone your male superiority down.

My two daughters would be embarrassed if I were offended by such a tepid remark. I raised them to be tough enough where, if a guy makes a little off-handed remark on a forum, their feathers won't get ruffled. And most of all, they don't need dad to stand up for them - they can do that themselves. Tone down your sanctimony.

I am going to go with you on this one.

THIS!! +1

I've got an Explorer 1 ref 214270 and if I didn't, there's no question the LE RM would be on order now. Gotta say, the LE RM, at least in photos of seen, appears to have that lovely raised and rounded crystal, giving it such an awesome side profile. I so wish the Explorer 1 had a crystal like that...

Ah, but an Explorer 1 does have a crystal like that if you go vintage.

I adore mine.

I know, and lovely watch btw... A 1016 is almost certainly on my roadmap for "someday", maybe.

Personally, my resistance to chasing any vintage is this fear I have (from knowing myself as I do) that I will feel compelled to baby it away in a safe. Which then my brain (plus cheerfully vocal family members 😉 ) will say "Well, why not just look at pictures on the internet, then??"

This has been an unpaid ad for Rolex Explorer 1 -- "The watch that scratched an itch, and the watch I will not baby" 😉

A new wrist shot has popped up, thought I would share.

I am not sure if there are different shades of faux lume, but this application looks rather tasteful.

...and yet another. Dare I say this is the best one to surface so far?

I can't wait until this baby is on my wrist, when are they supposed to start trickling into stores anyway?

My AD stated June.

Same. I heard some early reports of late May, but the NYC OB said June when I placed my order.

So that's 8 more weeks in all likelihood. I may need to buy a new watch to take my mind off the waiting. Maybe a Sinn.

LOL - I was seriously considering acquiring the Sinn 103 St Acrylic. Then, this Omega beauty showed up . . .

Can't go wrong with Sinn. I used to have a 356 and it's one of the few watches to this day that I really regret selling.

Same here, great watches those Sinn's, I actually had my 656 polished as I didn't like the matte look on the case. But flipped it years and years ago, it's actually the only watch I've sold that I've regretted.

My AD in the UK is still saying end of May, but I think June is more likely.

The couple of OBs I spoke to in Australia said September was the likely month, but of course it takes a lot longer for stuff to get here, doesn't it.
