For replying within an already made thread, scroll down to the bottom of the page. You will see your avatar on the left and an open box to type a response on the right.

If you are wishing to start a new thread, there is a "post new thread" button on the top right of your screen once you're within a given subsection of the forum.

If anyone is interested there is a railmaster at the boutique at 5th Avenue in NYC. Someone please pick it up before I make a bad decision on my bank account and get it myself!!

I'm not sure if this makes your situation better or worse, but you can at least skip the Boutique - there are three or so of them available on the secondary market for $1500+ off retail if you look through WatchRecon...

Has anyone tried winding the crown and listening? I was very pleasantly surprised to hear a delayed "winding" sound inside there after a couple of winds of the crown. you can hear something powering the mainspring and then it comes to a very sudden, solid stop...what an incredible movement.

For which watch?

Switched from the nato to the leather the other day...didn't think I'd like the leather as it's thin and tapers near the clasp, but 1.) it offers the lowest profile of the 3 provided straps, 2.) doesn't contribute to the fuzz/dust buildup between the lugs that the nylon strap seems to prone to do, 3.) most subtle/understated of the 3 bands, 4.) like the nato I'm not worried about scratching the band.

Recommendations for a good leather band replacement when the provided OEM leather band eventually fails? I've seen a few referenced in previous posts but can't locate them now.

Oh sorry, for the Railmaster LE, but of course, the same would be true with the Seamaster 300 LE

What I find great about the Railmaster...(of course this applies to any watch this precise) is that it's gaining 2-3 seconds per day while I'm wearing it, but when I leave it on the watch winder (Orbita) for a few days, it actually looses seconds which is perfect for me since I rotate though a couple other watches. With this system of rotation, who knows when I'll need to re-set it!

I got a Jones in Tokyo strap for mine. Custom and better value for money than anything else I could find.

Speedy picked up this morning. Absolutely delighted with it. Makes a great pair with the railmaster (despite my wife thinking they look the same).

Just as well I don’t fancy much from Basel this year as my wallet wouldn’t be able to take it.

Congrats Steve! Mine says welcome to the club!

Yes, that’s correct, the minute hand has the arrow instead, probably a good idea since it’s easier to spot that way and I’d imagine you’d deal more in terms of minutes vs. hours when sport diving. Also, the second hand is white (some had a luminous tipped second hand like the 1960s Speedy), and the bezel counts elapsed time instead of countdown. All these were changes made to the SM300 after 1960.

Here is an interesting article about the various changes made to the SM300, you can definitely see where the Planet Ocean got it’s looks from (1969)...

Notice the hour hand of your father’s Seamaster is not broad arrow compared to the 60th anniversary edition, is this the case? Thanks!

This thread is absolutely tearing me apart. On the fence for either the RM or SM and cannot decide! It’s to celebrate the birth of my son, due in only a few weeks time.

Have tried both of them on and they feel fantastic. Maybe ever so slightly leaning towards the RM, mainly because it just feels so comfortable on my small 6.5” wrist. Then again, there is something comforting about the weight and thickness of the SM, and it’s ruggedness might come in handy with handling the little man 😀.

If I’d go with the SM I’d probably wear in on a tropic strap. The RM is just made for that bracelet it seems.

On a side note, celebrated birth of first baby girl with the Globemaster (white face in steel on strap) and still thoroughly loving it.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

It’s only money and you can’t take it with you. Go for it! It needs a good home and sounds like you’re just the person to make it feel loved!
