OMEGA 1957 Trilogy Limited Editions – Railmaster, Seamaster 300, Speedmaster’57

I just got lucky after looking at a few dealers who had none and some who never saw any of the trilogy before they sold out, as I was in the London airport with a little time to kill, saw a watch shop with Omegas, and surprise surprise surprise was a 60 year Speedmaster. In the duty free no less! A lot less than I was considering paying on the aftermarket too. A great way to start a trip, even though I have a large box to carry around with me until I get home!

Congrats. Heathrow?

Just adding a picture of my Seamaster 300 - still did not dare to peel all stickers off and wear it in all day life... everything is so new and shiny 😁 (the first wearing is so much easier with vintages 😉´)

What's life if you are unable to wear the watch that you like? Lol.

I dunno, it's absolutely pouring out today and I feel much more comfortable wearing my Seamaster knowing that as a modern watch it's much less likely to allow any water ingress.... and if it does, parts are readily available to fix it

Wonder how many of each of the Trilogy editions made it to the UK? I'm still seeing some Railmasters and Seamasters advertised online at mainstream jewellers for sale but no Speedmasters. So out of the 3500+ of each version, what's the consensus regarding how many of each are likely to be circulating here in the UK?
Also seeing lots of Speedmasters appearing on EBay being advertised as unworn and still in stickers and most aren't selling for the inflated asking price. In fact of those I have watched they barely make the RSP. Will these watches go up in value over time or will they fail to turn out to be the investment piece that perhaps some of us thought they might?

Its a shame that these pieces are ending up on Ebay and deprive real enthusiasts.

out of the 3557 pieces, it may be only a small percentage that is on ebay.

Like most sought after watches, many buy them purely to make a fast buck and like you say deprive real enthusiasts the chance to buy. In some ways that's why it's satisfying to see those being offered on eBay failing to achieve the high asking prices.
Personally I think that in 20 or 30 yrs time these pieces may change hands for significant sums. Not sure I could keep mine boxed and stickered until then.

I don't dispute that. The point that I was making was that these pieces, Speedmasters specifically, aren't selling on the grey market or eBay for the high sums that some speculators might have thought that they would.
I must admit, I too thought that these would have been changing hands for much more than I have seen, especially the Speedmaster.

There are still a few railmasters knocking around at AD’s. indeed the one i bought mine from has another in the window now. Not many seamasters though (although one well known U.K. chain has them in stock on the website apparently) and I have not seen a speedy anywhere.

It kinda makes sense given the railmaster was always likely to be the least popular of the three being the least known (oddly, I like it the most of the three).

As always with these types of things, once the initial sales and flips are over, only then will we get a view as to the value when they become harder to get with most in the hands of collectors.

Seen several railmasters and Seamaster previously during Christmas in the shops. They're now gone.

And you can even buy them online which I’m surprised about. Thought these would be in store only. Also Railmaster been in the window for some time now in AD in Aberdeen. I think that if the Railmaster and Seamaster hadn’t been so closely priced to the Speedmaster they’d probably have sold out too. Still 4 years interest free makes them very accessible.

It depends on what Omega releases in the future. If they never release another 2915 Speedmaster clone then the 60th anniversary will surely become hard to find and prices will increase. I don't think they will release a similar watch for at least 10 years. Most of the limited edition anniversary Speedmasters have increased in value, but it didn't happen overnight. A new Speedmaster pro cost 2200 euros in 2003 and it's second hand value was 2900 euros in 2017.

Having said that, Omega has gotten wise and started charging a premium for the limited editions.

You are forgetting inflation. Using the UK economy as a benchmark, £2000 in Jan 2003 (roughly €2200) is equivalent to nearly £3,100 in today's money.

Reason I bought my Speedmaster 60th LE was because I thought there would never be another opportunity to buy such a true rendition of a classic original piece again and I still think that. I can’t see what else Omega could do in the future that will come close to these Trilogy pieces. I think the internet would break if Rolex did something like this....imagine!
Everything else in the future will most likely be LE tributes to past models.
Did your Speedmaster finally arrive?

True - actually, I believe the rail and seamasters are the best value of the trio with the modern movement etc. The pricing of the speedy I think represents the popularity of that watch as opposed to any technical benefit. Of course, it is lovely however.

I do think that if they had priced up the railmaster at maybe £4,500 though it would have sold out. As things stand it’s more expensive than the Rolex explorer which I guess is it’s natural competitor, for all that I prefer the railmaster.

That said I have no quibbles with what I paid. The domed sapphire is worth the price of admission for me. And true, the 0% finance is a good incentive and equally why omega may feel able to increase their prices a little.
