Hi All,

I have just taken delivery of this very nice omega, but needs a little work, but I love it!
Just have a few questions please.

While googling these watches,I noticed they normally come in 165.002,but was surprised to see it was a 165.001,as I purchased the watch quickly. Is this still a legitimate ref for the dial?

Would anyone please know the omega part numbers for the hands and crown,as I cant find them when searching?

I dont normally ask regarding money, but was £315 a fair price that I paid for this?

Many thanks

Lee

Ref 165.002 and 165.001 are very similar. It’s the first time I’ve seen a technical dial in a .001 but it could we be correct.

I think you’re going to struggle with the hands and they are quite specific to black dials. This is why it was so cheap imo. It would be worth checking whether these hands were used on other models such as Cosmics etc to broaden the search but i do think they’re specific and hard to find.

A better option may be to source a silver pair for a normal dial and have them painted by a watchmaker

Nice dial btw! Good catch on that and if you can get the hands sorted, along with the missing case clamp you’ve got it at a good price.

Technically a Speedmaster Companion, a sub model in the world of technical dials.

Is there a reason the hands are missing? I don't like the looks of the centre it looks damaged.

Not sure why the hands are missing,This is how it was when I bought it a few days ago.
The Ebay seller isnt a watch person, and seems to be selling other no related stuff.

I will have a closer look at the centre.

Yes,I noticed these with seamaster rather than geneve on the lower part of the dial.

Is this name given by collectors because of the hour markers and hand comparisons to speedmaster?

It’s a name(a) given by collectors so is subjective.

People may call this a ‘Speedmaster Companion’ due to the markers but for me it’s still a ‘Technical’ dial due to the red accents and crosshair. A ‘Speedmaster Companion’ would have no red accents or crosshair in my book.
Again, subjective as it’s just a name collectors allocate to dial styles.

That is quite possible.
I just read another opinion that speedmaster companions have grey dials rather than black also.

The dots on either side of the 12 o'clock index is what makes them Speedmaster Companions.

Thanks for that.
I never really studied the speedmaster dial before buying this watch, but now I can see a resemblance.

Actually this is a technical dial and one of a variety of models produced by Omega around 1968.

it is not a Speedmaster companion model.

Speedmaster dial is black, simple indexes similar to the Speedmaster and all white hands

The watch I have is about 1964,but the very nice watch you have shown does look like a simplified speedmaster and certainly can see why its called a companion.
