I think there are better pieces out there - and, to a limited extent, if you have to ask about aesthetics then this is probably not the right one for you.

I’m not an any kind of expert but I think you can get one in better shape for the money.

All right ! Many thanks to all of you
Guess I will pass my turn this time 😗 (sorry if my english is imperfect)
Aside from eBay, do you know some places where we can find some speedys ? (Chrono24 is far too expensive as I could see, and not so quite reliable)

I have just sold this 145.022 -71 step dial fully serviced last month for £3750 - €4280, I thought it was fair price as it has an early 90's bezel and watch head only, overall its a beautiful watch with lovely patina and good for many years with a service.

There out there but its better to be patient and not jump on the first watch..

Is it really? I did say initial glance... I suppose it means one could make a bigger discounted offer then!
It seems to be original no? There are serifs on the numbers of the tachymeter

Really interesting thread. The advice is spot on. I wanted tritium for the patina and the vintage feel. I managed to secure a mid/late 90s one in great condition for significantly less than the one asked about here. That's what's so great about the Speedmaster, the changes have been so minimal for so many years, that unless it's a birthyear you desperately need to find, condition should be a major factor.

Otherwise, the S from the speedmaster logo is à little one (compared with the model I posted), suggesting it is maybe from late 70's ?

I also think you can get more for your money! In august 2019 i sold my -74 and got circa 4000 euros for this one with a 1116 bracelet. I know prices has gone up a bit since then, but not enough to motivate a purchase in my honest opinion. I have also been in the hunt for a new to me speedy lately and I know it hurts to pass on watches, but as soon as you find something that feels 100% with your budget it will be worth the wait 😀

Saw there were a few sales on the forum, how do you get to buy a watch to someone, in order to secure both parts (the buyer and the seller) in case there is is any problem ? A simple payment via PayPal seems a little dangerous no? How do people do here ?

There are terms in every listing and there is a seller/buyer review section. Buy the seller.

No that is a pre 77 dial font. The bezel is incorrect and is modern as shown by the serif on the tachy

Thought the serifs were specific to the pre-90's ?

I would be suspicious of the fact that all the photos show the chrono hand at about the 5 second marker, hiding (or the result of) chrono creep and the need of a service.

Or hiding a lack of a drop - r? Someone else mentioned a '90s dial but I'm not seeing that, unless it is missing the drop-r and I can't tell.

Just need to look for the short S really.

The 1974 dials have short a short S as well that looks completely different than the mid '90s short S.

Below is the OP's watch as well as a dial from '74:
