Thanks for replying. I too have a 145.012 that falls into the correct range etc, I have even found out the the serial number next to mine (1 number different) was an ultraman, I had the same thought as you, mine was from my dad-he bought it brand new in 68, so I just asked him if it ever had an orange hand, it didn’t, he told me he wouldn’t have bought one with an orange hand. It’s amazing what a premium they carry. There are quite a few threads on here about them and one member has done an estimated calculation, his results confirmed there were likely 1000’s produced, not the initial 50-100 that were originally thought.
You can source an omega orange hand from another model if that is the look you are wanting, it would be a slightly different size and a different shade of orange but probably not noticeable to the naked eye while on the watch.

To tell the truth, if the hands hadn't been changed or were contemporary / authentic, I would never have had the scruple of the orange hand or the ULTRAMAN. Now my curiosity is to understand if my situation is like yours. The destination Mexico as serial and year of production, quarant tone, push me to take the recommended test. Request a photo excerpt with an orange hand. If in the future I do not have the extract that mentions it as such, my watch will surely already have the white hand now already bought and in my possession. Thank you so much for telling your story.

Are the hour and minute hands not also wrong? Lume fill is shorter on both hands. I'm a newbie though so perhaps nothing.
No you are right. the three main hands have been replaced and are absolutely not original. The compax hands have been repainted. Initially I only noticed the chronograph hand, while looking for it I noticed what you noticed. So you are right. Thank you

I had some time in my hands and wondered what was possible, but obviously the current hand is too thin for a simple job

In hindsight, you could just re-submit with someone else's photo and your movement photos

Just pm me if you want the photo removed

do you know that you are right? I wait for the holidays and I do it.

I'm sorry, but if all hands are wrong why are you posting about the 'potential' ultraman hand. The watch seems doctored. Each to their own but not for me.

I have not posted any retouched photos. all the photos i posted are of the watch as it is in my hands.
I purchased a model with serial, reference, year and destination very close to others defined as Ultraman.
The hand that I had immediately noticed not being Omega was exploited on the deal and before I discovered that the others were not original I began to learn about the Ultraman variant.
Thanks anyway for your interest.

If my little knowledge of UMs doesn’t fail me another important element of UMs is the dial which is in many (but apparently not all) cases a different color/texture vs same ref models, would be interesting to see this one next to another 145.012 to check for that, it could provide further evidence that we’re indeed talking about a “special” 145.012

cheers

As far as I'm concerned, it's an UM if an Extract says it is. And unfortunately I don't think the Extracts are 100% dependable.

I was recently handling a one-owner watch that appeared to be an UM in every important way (serial, correct orange hand, glossy dial), but you never know whether an Extract will actually confirm it, so how much do you offer?

I also read about this today and took some pictures. I hope it will be useful. A black is not easy to photograph to show variations. But I hope so.

Yes, that appears to be the glossy look that is sometimes seen on UM pieces (and sometimes on non-UM watches as well, apparently).

Not on topic, but I have that exact same glossy black on a Constellation that also had "played" hands, because of the fishy hands, I myself don't believe it's an authentic watch yet, just waiting for another example to show up to 100% confirm but it never occured to me that it was the same texture seen here

On topic, even just a fake buckle on a leather strap is enough to put a bad taste in a collector's mouth, but once you get these issues fixed, I think it'll feel good

My approach would be to get the Archive Extract first, then with the Archive Extract's copy, take it to an Omega authorised watchmaker and get replacement original hands installed on the watch

Period-correct hands would need to be purchased on the open market, and I don't think it would be easy to find the correct sweep hand. However, the OP could find something approximate.

thanks for your interest. In the first post, page 1, there is an extract from a few days ago. The fact that I read several who complain of approximate EOA excerpts, the similarity of my specimen to UM make me please investigate. Thank you

I have already bought the vintage set of original hands of those years but I am convinced to be an ultraman. too many common aspects. I don't trust the extract

I know, but even if you have the correct attributes, it's really hard for them to add details now, I was pretty disappointed with the only Archive Extract I applied for, they didn't detail the dial like they used to as in the past extracts of the same watch

Edit: Also pretty much no replies to tickets, or very very very late replies

I think Omega in Istanbul sucks hard in my case, as I suspect my tickets got redirected to them and they just let it be, previously I wanted to get some work done on my watches (crystal replacements) and they didn't reply when I asked about the process

I don’t think it’s an UM, also you may have issues getting the omega eoa amended as you have already got yours without the orange hand mentioned. Sorry if this isn’t what you want to hear.

Then all is good. You don't trust the manufacturer's records and should enjoy your watch. UM or not UM would be only a problem in official value. Just state whatever you believe and see, what happens. ( In my case, I would not pay a hefty premium for an orange hand; excerpt or not.) That comes close to the term Fake News, if the expectations don't match the facts. And that could be the end of this thread. You believe you found an UM. Excellent! Enjoy.

Thank you all for the advice and guidance, hopefully or not. I have decided what I will do. We also close this post and I wish you a good evening to everyone. Thanks again.
