Old watch, new story - Railmaster 2777-2

Hi everyone.

I’m the happy, and more so curious, owner of a Railmaster with ref 2777-2, which is a rare find. I recently bought it from an elderly guest in my small local restaurant.

I have tried to find all the information that is, but I’m sure there’s more out in the World Wide Web.

I’m looking for advice to where I can sell it to a collector that knows its value. But most important now, is to get as much information about the watch as possible.
Anyone?
Thanks
Roy Merli, Norway

Need 2 more pictures: outside case back and inner cover . In excellent condition, which yours is not, around US$ 15000. Your condition as is, if everything checks out : around US $ 10000.

So you’re asking collectors for their time and knowledge to allow you to maximise your selling price when you try and sell it to said collectors?

If you just want information on your watch, I think it’s perfectly fine to ask on a collectors forum. If you want to sell to collectors and maximise your selling price you should do your own research.

Thanks! I’ll read that article.

Yes, I was told about the 200 post rule. First I want as much info as possible. The bids are still already coming.

Another one ....

No, the seller was a 90 year old man from Norway. He was quite sure that his mothers “friend” from outside Senja in Norway was the one who got a hold to it in the late 50s when there was some kind of a flea market area in Holmenkollen (ski jumping hill) in Oslo. It’s hard to say exactly where it came from. The one thing that is certain is that he had it in his drawer the last 50 years.

I think, because it’s so rare, I want to go as deep as possible, and I see that there has been done a lot researching before. I think it’s really fascinating that omega themselves don’t know much.
I see I’m getting critic to feast on other’s knowledge, and then wants to maximize a sale somewhere down the road.
I have paid a considerable amount for it my self, the old man needed/wanted the money. I think the story was so cool and my first research told me that it should be possible to reach the +$10k mark. Because that’s what I paid. I never bought it to make a huge profit, but for sure I want my money back. The story is way more interesting than the money.
He had also an old Rolex that he sweetened the deal with, and that watch will be my memory of the whole case. If I sometime during this process I fall in love with the railmaster I’ll keep it myself. But I will probably never use it, my wrist are to big for this. I don’t own watches that I don’t use, that’s why I’m selling this..

You're telling me that you're willing to drop $10k+ on a watch that you don't know much about? Even diehard collectors would have to seriously consider before paying that kind of money for this!

I checked authenticity and quite a bit more. Now I’m nerding around. The price was my suggestion. I had not an intention to make a lot of money on him. I think I will get my money back. But thanks for your concern.
