Thanks for letting me join the forum, I have an old Omega which my father gave me in 1963, it was worn regularly until around 1985 when it lost its glass and has been left in a drawer since then the dial is now quite dirty although it is still working?, please can anyone tell me if it is worth repairing, I would also appreciate any information or advice regarding this watch, thanks. 20200710_150811.jpg 20200710_150742.jpg

Being you father gave it to you there may be sentimental value. The caseback suggests a military connection. Others will comment in greater detail.

Sad so see the dial in such a dirty condition :(

Watch looks original (I'm no expert on those) and surley has a huge sentimental value.

I hope an expert could do some work on the dial to save this watch

    Good luck!

I have no intention of selling, but thinking that if it's restored I will pass it on to one of my grandsons.

I think it’s pretty nice, especially the case which has survived far better than most. I think it’s the alloy version and they aren’t strong and often crack at the lugs like mine below. One thing to be carful about is that it seems to have had luminous dots applied on the dial. That’s a bit odd as the hands aren’t luminous, but more importantly it’s likely to be radium which is radioactive and shouldn’t be handled. I’d put it in a ziplock bag (or similar) between now and getting it serviced. Certainly don’t poke around with it too much or try and clean yourself.

If for any reason you decided to sell then there would be interest as the case is good.

I seem to remember it once had luminous hands but they were changed in the late 60s after the glass was lost in an accident , I have no plans to sell as I would like to pass it on to one of my grandsons.

Those hands are correct and original for that watch. If it once had luminous hands then they themselves would have been replacements. Also I think the dial isn’t the original one, although it is a replacement that the MoD would have done themselves. Nice watch anyway and worth getting serviced, and personally I might try and get the luminous material removed especially if you want to gift it to your grandsons.
