Kristen Lee (in addition to being a very entertaining writer to read) is lowkey a watch person, so it’s no surprise this is something she’d notice and write about!

And yes, it’s ridiculous. What’s funny though is her cutout of the watch on her wrist is just like the decals on the AMG-Petronas drivers’ suit cuffs

I bet there is an IWC watch faces app store around the corner. So you can buy a portofino at a bargain of just $999 in case you are bored on the autobahn. ::facepalm1::

Omega already has an app that does this. It tells the correct time, I can use the chrono function, I can spin the bezel

Not sure why IWC would buy into this, odd.

Brand advertising: I wouldn't doubt that IWC paid for the "opportunity" to be digitally associated with Merc.

But you don't mess with your actual product. IWC already has a tie in with AMG and the F1 team with real watches. IWC doesn't make watches or clocks like this, this is a dumb 'new Coke' action, but IWC has done weird stuff in the past.

While I agree with you (it's dumb), I can envision an external marketing agency pitching this using all manner of graphs and charts (not dissimilar to the above) to get this idea sold. The irony is that most folks young enough to appreciate a digital IWC most likely can't afford a $200K AMG.

And as far as dumb marketing ideas go, the attached is probably the worst.

I don't know. I really don't think it is that bad...but definitely a first!
