@STANDY Not at all... I don't care for the LE, the only one I really really like is the 1976 Italian Apollo-Soyuz ASTP tribute... I only have black dial Speedmasters and was disappointed by the 50 years Apollo 8 ( Black & Yellow colors ? ) the 50 years Apollo 11 ( Buzz Butt subdial ? ) the 50 years Apollo 13 ( wait there is none, it will be " 50 years NASA Snoopy award " ) So three times in a row... Between July 1994 and July 2019 I have only worn Omega Speedmasters... maybe time for something else ! I always joke about " watch journalists " doing reviews about a certain watch X for one year on the wrist... well by July 2020 I will be able to do a review about one year without a Speedmaster on my wrist, as I didn't touch any since July 2019... 50 years Apollo 11 was special for me in that way
I wonder how much of the demand is based upon the financial success for the buyers of prior Snoopy editions. I have never seen such unmitigated interest in a watch that nobody has ever seen. I’m sure it will be nice and it will likely be desirable but if they said “this will not be limited and we will make them for years and years” would people still want them? Are people hoping that the new snoopy is their chance to get in on missed opportunities in the past? I think the difference this time is that if the watch starts at $12,000 and they make 5050 pieces it will eventually creep to $16,000 but it won’t be like the older versions that had a much lower price to begin with.
I agree with your thinking in regards to prior Snoopy releases and that these are now unobtanium pieces to many of us, myself included. My gut feeling is that this will be a LE piece, similar pricing to the A11 but this won't be the financial success story of the last release, that ship has sailed. As to unmitigated interest, I disagree, I'm green but in reading various OF threads, the ST1, ST2, ideas for a ST3, A11, A13 have all been discussed, with waiting lists, some just snapped up before being seen or worn. Everyone was expecting an A13 piece, hoping it to be Snoopy related and I think Omega have done well in missing the A13 and building the anticipation of this piece in October. As with many I will try to purchase one, I can still decline to buy if it doesn't sing out to me.
So seems Omega sent out a mail with additional info (post from a user on the sister calibre11 forum):
Just my 2 pence and as always my opinion doesn’t really mean anything but I think that’s rubbish. Can’t see that having come from Omega personally.
Anyone hear any new news on a Snoopy release this year? I asked one of my AD's and they gave me the snooty response "this watch will only be available to our highest spending customers", as if I didn't just buy a submariner no date from them last April.
Wow, thanks for the warm welcome. If you re-read my post, I asked about NEW news... any additional information to what was already mentioned. As the saying goes, if you have nothing nice to say, don't bother.
Sounds like you need a new AD. Find an Omega Boutique near you (they will ship if you can't go in person) and inquire there.
I got very lucky and befriended an AD out of state that I recently bought a Speedmaster and LE Seiko from. They've spoiled me and by far have offered the watches at great deals. I'll come back and update you guys on the latest my AD watch guy tells me. BTW, thanks for the honest but kind response.
