Placed my deposit today. I was able to chat up with the manager at the OB. He told me by Tuesday, Omega told them to stop taking in deposits. They're still receiving constant inquiry phone calls for the watch. I should go play a lottery ticket because I was so lucky! I only wish others can be able to do the same.
You know marketing is a success when a customer deems himself lucky, nay privileged, to be able to buy an item for $10,000 at some indeterminate time in the future.

Facts! 😉 Rolex has been doing it for so long.

True, at least with Omega you'll eventually get the watch.

And the award for the best case back in the world is - Rolex (see below). Agree by 99.9999% of the world population although they never seen it. And will never change.

Like mentioned previously, it's difficult to create scarcity through limited production when you're marketing anniversary pieces. Rolex can make you wait 3 years, but it doesn't make sense to wait for a 50th anniversary Omega in year 54.
The Rolex 16610LV was originally marketed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Submariner. Rolex ended up producing that watch for about seven years.

I wonder if it might be in the plan for Omega to have small subtle changes in the design each year or two for the production run. MkI, MkII, MkIII, etc. both to pique interest, as well as to combat counterfeiting.

One of the things I love about being a watch nerd is getting deep in the weeds of how to identify these variations of a model run. Like the Rolex Kermit. There’s 5 different bezels, 6 different dials, and 2 different cases that were used over the course of the run, and knowing these subtle variations is critical in properly evaluating and authenticating what you have. I would love something similar here.

I hope not if it ends up being 5 different bezels, 6 different dials, and 2 different cases over like a 10 year period,

Love the watch. I think Omega nailed it.

After not even a week, I think I'd rather have this for the same price:

When you start talking 10k, there are options.
Each to their own but that’s awful IMO.

Or any METAS certified Omega will do 😉
Most modern omegas have more magnetic resistance than the milgauss.

No OB were taking serious orders for this item in the UK - OB's are getting serious as of Wednesday 7th
They were only taking your details
None of them were supposed to be taking deposits. - 10% paid this morning, now the watch is announced deposits can be taken
The only time that you were eligible to get on the list was when the watch was announced for sale ie Oct 5th. - OB was evasive on this and whether it was my e-mail months ago or my spending history at the store that generated the call yesterday but either way I have been given the chance to buy the watch early 2021 (and allocation is on a first come first serve basis - I believe but cannot substantiate that the OB may be doing VIPS and contacting them and not taking deposits based on walk-in, phone or e-mail requests) not on a date of rumour!!
You should have received a confirmation email of your interest from the OB not long after that with the T&Cs. - No confirmation to my e-mail from months ago, received call yesterday saying that if I want the watch I needed to say yes and pay my deposit ASAP or sooner so this was paid this morning
OB's are still not taking deposits. - As of yesterday (Wed 7th) they are
OB's are in place to get the first shipments and ADs may get some. - Nothing until 2021 according to my OB

This is what happened to me on Tuesday evening, opened up my emails to an email from the OB to say they were now in a position to take a deposit for the watch in order to secure one which i paid and have had a order confirmation today with a receipt of deposit paid, however someone on here was quick enough to doubt what i was saying and wanted proof that i'd paid 🙄 glad someone else has had the same experience as me from expressing interest in the watch with the OB through to the paying of a deposit to secure one 👍 just to prove others wrong in their know it all comments at times :whipped:

🤦🤦🤦🤦

It must be the shop you are dealing with then because I am on two main Omega lists and both have assured me no deposit is required..

In fact I will phone them again for the third time and probably get laughed at once again.

I have all the T&Cs in writing and I know they are getting early stock and don't have to order any in. And if there is any surplus I might buy another too. .

I was thinking this.

I would like to see them Lume the Bezel. and the Crown.

Why on Earth did they decide to change it!!!

In fact why don't Omega do a custom Omega scheme like Car and Bike Manufacturers do.
Custom paint jobs and special add on features. .

I would order the 50th in Blue Ceramic Case, White Face, Full Lume on dials, bezel on the stars and on the back. .

I would not like that idea at all. The whole build your own watch style. I guess they changed it to completely make both the 45th and 50th unique.

Has anyone from Melbourne, Aus been able to secure this piece?
If you try ringing a boutique, it forwards to Sydney but all they tell you is you must wait for the boutiques in Melbourne to reopen to take deposits and so forth.

MEL’s in COVID lockdown, still. 😡 Is the SYD OB not willing to take an order from you over the phone?

I’ll try again but they wouldn’t the last couple of times.

OMG. You'd have bought a lottery ticket at that moment when lady luck smiling at you!
I'm in regular touch with the only Rolex Boutique in the city and they don't have any information yet on when OP 36 mm 2020 would be delivered, nor are they taking deposit...
They have only less than a dozen precious metal datejust watches in the entire store. This is the story now for more than a year...
The boutique was opened 2 years ago..
You have to check what kind of boutique that is. Datejust in precious metals do not exist currently.

I don't get why they'd refuse because they know the Melbourne OB is closed. What was their reason?
