NTTD in Action (Mission Status Report)

Dear fellow (NTTD) watch owners, after a bit more than two and a half years of owning and regularly wearing the NTTD "in the field" I have of course managed to add a few “battle scars" to my titanium Bond watch (e.g. at the clasp and even the caseback).

It is by no means my only watch and I am aware that scratches are just part of life - especially for a watch which is meant to be worn in action - but I haven‘t managed to produce similar scratches that easily - I at least never produced any on any caseback of my other (steel) watches yet - and so I was wondering how your last few months/years with the NTTD Seamaster have been? And how your titanium NTTD held up?

You won't see the scratches on the back of a watch in 99% of cases in everyday life. So for me, a scratch on the back wouldn't matter at all.
The scratch on the clasp is almost as rare to see in everyday life. I would be more bothered by scratches that I see every time I read the time. After 2.5 years of regular wear, I find these scuffs absolutely acceptable. They wouldn't bother me.
Incidentally, I own the same watch.

Agree that the location and magnitude of these are pretty inconsequential. Keep enjoying!

It doesn't bother me too much. However, I'm still wondering about how I managed to get the scratches on the caseback in the first place. And apart from that, I was interested to learn how other owners have gotten on with this model over the months and years? And how their NTTD has held up so far?

There's some great information on the internet regarding scratches when it comes to Grade 2 Titanium versus Grade 5 Titanium...versus stainless steel and coatings.

I love my NTTD and have been wearing it regularly for 3 1/2 years.Titanium if softer than SS, so you should perhaps expect more scratches. I have similar marks on the clasp but no scratches on the caseback. I'm not sure how you could have scratched your caseback, especially if you keep the bracelet on. Perhaps in your storage device?

I think I have some scratches on the caseback too. Let me try to find/take a photo...

If it really bothers you, and you want to further protect it, you could always apply a protective film (shrug).

As mentioned before, it doesn't bother me too much. But sure, please share photos of your watch its „battle scars“.

I'd also be interested in how the appearance of a really used NTTD will change over the years - at a certain point the scratches could start to look really good again.

That's right! Scratches on titanium are noticeable because the areas are lighter in color. However, they become darker again over time and are barely visible. I also have a scratch on my clasp that has become darker and darker over time and is now barely visible.

So grade 2 scratches easier than grade 5 right?

Most likely from laying it on the bracelet when not wearing it. Metal on metal.

(No watch was harmed taking this photo)

Totally unrelated but this is exactly why I disliked the Milanese on a shiny Apple Watch, it scratched the case back and the sides, it was pretty bad to be honest because of a design flaw by Apple but the Milanese can act like metallic sandpaper, maybe the same thing happened here?

How’s the bezel holding up? If it’s scratched does it affect the Lume dials?

Would have been an explanation for any other watch, but since the Milanese band is so stiff, it's hardly possible... unless the clasp is open.

No issues here … so far.

have you tried the pencil eraser trick?

That would be an idea, but since I'm not a big fan of „polishing“, I would prefer a worn watch with its battle scars.

Scratches on the caseback are from the bracelet/buckle if you set the watch down resting on them. Haven't scratched my NTTD yet but it's only a couple weeks old. But my Hesalite 3861 is
