This from my country. Is it someone from on here? https://www.watchcollectinglifestyl...-stolen-from-private-collector-in-new-zealand
This story is ridiculous from beginning to end. The guy has an instagram account dedicated to all the watches he owns Then he wonders how he was targeted because he thinks he told no one about his watch collection !!?? You've got at least 1974 suspects, pal ! Besides he just moved from Japan to New Zealand. He thinks no one noticed the 70 watches he was carrying through airport security?
Not to be callous, but I didn’t see one watch on that slideshow I actually thought- oh, that hurts. The watches Chunky lost last year however, that was horrific. It takes years to collect and curate a collection on that level.
That was a horribly sad read. I mean, Any time anyone is violated is awful, I don’t wish it upon anyone- but that much care and love has been put into a collection only to have it snatched like that- devastating. Sure we sling platitudes like “at least your family is safe”, or “be thankful nobody was hurt”- but that doesn’t mitigate the feeling of violation and loss of something you put so much of yourself into.
For some reason that seems a little like they had it coming to me as opposed to a poor collector with a home safe.
So says he. The story smells fishy right from the get go. Too many mistakes in a row by the guy. Plus with a collection as ugly as his, he would need a miracle to get rid of them.
Opinions regarding his taste in watches aside, or his apparent brain fart that led to the theft, this sucks. My sympathies to the victim.
It's worth a lot no doubt, but I cannot stand the design of the hands on his watches...hard pass for me. I would certainly take the Moser, the Sarpaneva, the De Bethune, and even the Reverso...along with the vintage PP...
I like that blue dial very much. To me, the movement takes the cake here. I’m not sure if this is brass or gold he used in this movement, too lazy to look up. This has a shock factor that caught me by surprise. Visited his boutique last year, Laurent Journe (brother of FP) set a tray of goodies in front of us. This CB stood out from its siblings. This was the first piece I picked up from 6 heavy hitter Journes. It was bright and joyful. (Also, my wallet texted me not to touch anything else!) If I were to decide to have a good day, I’d strap this blue thing on at 7am. The CB has a beach vibe that’s hard to ignore. Blue water, white sand. It’s a freaky little thing that I was drawn to the most. Looking at the dial, and knowing Journe, a respected independent , I’d maybe priced this (in my head) at, say $15k… Ok, it’s in the realm of affordable. Then I flipped the watch to see its movement, I knew immediately the 1 and 5 will have to trade place. It’s a basic dial, flip it, then holy hell, that golden movement is stunningly unique. I actually said “holy hell” soon as I flipped the watch and saw the movement. Laurent Journe responded “I know!”
