Not impressed with my PO 8500

I've always sort of imagined a lot of the perceived break in is related to how its used, the timekeeping on my SMPC when I first got it was not as consistent as it was about 3 months later, but then for that first three months I was taking it off and leaving it on the desk in different positions for extended periods for fear of scratching it while using my computer during the workday.

Later on I just wore it and didn't bother which is around the time it seemed to settle down, probably because it was on my wrist rather than sitting either crown up crown down or dial up for 8 hours in the middle of the day.

In a similar way whenever I buy a new iPhone the battery never lasts a day in the first two weeks as I'm always playing with it, after that it nearly doubles as I start using it normally.

That's more a case of new owner break-in though rather than watch break-in.

As others have said before the accuracy may change a bit over time.. I can fully understand the feelings you have with the time gain even though they may be a bit OCD! Another watch in your collection will help!

However there is a solution for your bracelet problems. I believe you can install the seamaster 300 adjustable clasp to the 42mm PO bracelet. This has been a point of discussion in WUS Forums where I am normally active in. Several members there have the same issue as you in regards to the planet ocean bracelet. Several have purchased and installed the clasp and have posted photos to demonstrate the result. I think you should do this!!

I have a SM300 and love the adjustable bracelet. Now that I have experienced it I don't think I could buy a watch without a similar type of bracelet..

Right now they are happy with my choices thanks.
And you can be! I'm using the same speakers, but on Accuphase 😀 [emoji482]

I agree...once you have a quick adjust bracelet I don't know how you go back.

That's interesting. I may look into that

I don't consult audio forums, because I see how much misinformation gets thrown around on watch forums, and I assume the same is true on other forums. I personally let my ears decide...

Who cares about watch accuracy and stereos. Al your pictures are crooked!!!! 😉😀

LOL - I was wondering when someone would notice. I did straighten them out, but once you get some volume through those 803's they get crooked again! 😉

UPDATE

So it's been a almost a month with this watch and I'm finally very content with this purchase. Like I said, the bracelet issue was resolved and now the accuracy is much better. I know it was within spec the entire time but now instead of gaining 4 seconds a day, I'm getting less than half a second a day. Thanks to the tech at omega who kindly regulated it for me. Now I don't have to worry about setting the time every 2 weeks.

Thanks for everyone's help! Time to go update the other forum!

Here is an Unboxing video I made when I first bought the watch,

i probably don't really need to open a thread but I would like everyone's input. The PO 8500 42mm with the orange bezel was my dream watch and I finally pulled the trigger. It's my first high end watch I ever owned and one that I value greatly.

It's been 2 weeks so far, the watch is very precise but not accurate. Gained a good 63 seconds in 2 weeks. I wear my watch everyday and I'm very active. It gains 2 seconds overnight regardless of resting position and the rest gains consistently throughout the day. I told omega and they say it's normal. I go online and people are getting +1 per day or just way better accuracy in general. Something the 8500 is meant to be doing. , so I guess I'm the unlucky one. My $99 seiko 5 automatic does a better job...The omega tech didn't even wanna touch my watch he said "it's running fine, we make our watches run fast by design blah blah"

Second thing is a common complain I hear everywhere and there isn't a solution. The watch is either too tight or too loose when I add or remove a half life. So I'm just trying to live with it on the loose side.

So it's been 2 weeks and I thought about returning the watch. I really don't want too plus I already feel bad cuz of all the desk scratches it acquired. I probably won't return it but I want you guys to give me some advice on what to do or any similar experiences. I like when I hear others say their watch acts the same but so far from why I have research, everyone is mostly getting excellent accuracy.

Thanks !
Both are easy fixes.

You take the watch to an AD or Boutique and get them to put it on a Witchi and check timing, amplitude etc. Any half competent watchmaker can adjust the watch for you.

You ask about adding a half link to the watch and see how that works. Sometimes it's about moving a link from one side of the bracelet to the other.

A good AD can make a significant difference in helping you make both adjustments. It's not hard - you just have to go to the AD and explain the problem.

I actually posted my first thread tonight and it was about my new Planet Ocean with the 8500 movement and how accurate it is. It is running within 1/2 second in days when calibrated and checked to the atomic clock. Runs more accurate than my Rolexes. That was one of my questions in my post. If they all tend to run that good. Hope you have better luck with yours. When not wearing mine I keep it on an Orbita winder.

I quite enjoy living life not worrying if my watch gains or looses a couple seconds a day. It's also not stressful to just show up where you need to be 10 minutes early and strolling rather than dashing from the car to the appointment. Set your alarm 30 minutes earlier in the morning and enjoy a different pace during the day. 👍

I don't worry about it one bit. But I love precision and if something runs super well. Well it makes me just want another one. 😀

Yeap, that´s why I listen with Grados 👍 No side effects except from playing too loud::rimshot::

To be honest, i bought my Seamaster for many reasons, timekeeping wasn't even a consideration.. I bought it because i wanted a beautiful watch. My iPhone is probably way more accurate. Just try to enjoy it.

As for how it fits on your wrist, mine is too tight with the half link removed and slightly looser than i would like with it put back in. I have grown to get used to it and now i'm happy with it being slightly looser 😀

Nothing wrong with that at all. Whats important for some isn't as important for others. I never tried wearing the I phone on the wrist 😀 When I spend this much money, I want it accurate. And accurate it is 😀

As far as getting a better fit, it might work to put in two half links and remove one whole link...........or some other combination. I don't believe a half link measures exactly half of a whole link. Clear as mud?👍

just my opinion - but these little miracles of engineering are hand-made with gears and levers which run with no electricity - perpetually if constantly wound/worn! Just think about the accuracy on something NON-electrical. i think you are bound to get variations even with META or COSC certification. All my Rolexes and Omegas run fast, which I prefer. I have +1, +1.5, +4, +7, +11, and +12. The last two being the mighty Rolex. As long as it is running "fast" I'm happy with it. Yes the +7 to +12 is outside of specs, but considering the rotation of my watches and the constant resetting every couple weeks (I don't use watch winder), my watches are no more faster than by a minute at any given time when wearing it

Oh ok i see. I'm used to it now and thinking about a NATO strap anyway so will probably leave it for now atleast.. 😀

Gaining 4 sec in two weeks? Are you sure about that? Sounds like buyers remorse to me. Return watch and buy a cheap used Tissot automatic for £100 on ebay to get used to timekeeping. If you can live with it then go and buy an omega.

I like my cheap (US$2,150.00/£1,475.00 retail) Tissot automatic. Not a COSC (and I have a few), but keeps good time.
