Spend a lot of time in the bush….they are a problem but not as bad as the video makes out.
Up north they are actively taken out. Know a few professional cullers of feral species and they are rare compared to pigs.
Feral Pigs are the big problem in Australia…
Plenty of the bastards still running around East Gippsland

Other than a thin coastal strip, East Gippy is sparsely populated, mountainous and thickly forested, even the coastal bit is mainly farmland or swapland with some small touristy towns on the lakes, rivers and beach. No city there. In fact there are only 2 reasonable sized towns, all the rest are blink and you'll miss 'em sort of places, and many pretty well exist in name only. Although it is mineral rich the geography makes it too bloody difficult to bother mining it. there are large problem populations of feral animals, such as deer, rabbits, foxes, cats, goats, dogs, rats, brumbies (wild horses), pigs and European carp, as well as various introduced bird and insect species. the terrain making it extremely difficult to try and control them.
With bugger all sizable predators other than dingoes (a kind of native dog itself really a feral species, introduced @ 3000 yrs ago)

I’m beginning to think Mad Max was a documentary.
There you go! And that's how we bought and sold cars back in the late 60s and 70s and of course with a good packing of banana peel into the diff or Gear box to quieten those stubborn noises. 🤪

Cars are the cyclist worst nightmare, not in Australia.
They have killer magpies, so aggressive you need special built helmets.

Just when I thought nothing about Australia would still surprise me. I stand corrected.

What the snot do magpies stand to gain from attacking riders?

Maybe they're just anarchists?

I like them. Magpies are intelligent, inquisitive birds, some of whom become aggressive once a year in breeding season, when they can be a hassle, especially when they attack kids. For the rest of the year they are fun to have around - I know several that I greet on my morning walk and understand that, like crows, they recognise individual people. There is a famous one adopted by a Queensland family as a young bird that became great friends with the family's dog.

My wife’s family had one as sort of a pet when she was young. She said it was a great pet…

Magpies are extremely smart they can recognise faces and even cars, the trick is to become friends with your local magpies and they will never swoop you. they have looooong memories and if you become an enemy you will be an enemy for life. They can live for 20+ yrs.
They hate cyclists because they {the magpies) are smarter than most of them.....I say that because cyclists could easily avoid being attacked by dismounting in known areas where problem birds exist or by taking a different route in swooping season.
I always have good relations with magpies, some times they come to just sit with me in the garden. My mother was an enthusiastic gardener and they would join her when she was weeding or digging in the hope that they might score some tasty garden pests like grubs bugs etc.
There is a girl "The Magpie Whisperer" who has quite a large flock of magpie friends:
The Magpie Whiperer
And to learn more about these birds, her website:

I've always been warned about "drop bears" while in Australia...well apparently they can be a hazard in the US as well...
