Seen over Sydney last weekend - don't panic, it doesn't want to kill you...

https://youtube.com/shorts/SiFjEwEuG8s?si=SMJ_yAZl5_ekMjcG

Latrodectus ventus (widów spiders) swarms of them travelling on gossamer thin silk that they spin.

Wind in the sky
the spiders fly high
but when the wind stops
better get the phuck inside

(Aussie kids rhyme)

You got to be f.. kidding! Flying spiders!!! Now I too have arachnophobia, damn it.

Is the colder south any better? Less venomous creepy crawleys, that want me dead?

Nope... we get clouds of them too and this is as far south as you can go and still be in the country. On cool, humid mornings you sometimes see trees draped in cobwebs - highlighted by the dew on them.

Its fine here in NZ, no snakes, flying spiders, stone fish, poisonous trees and best of all very few sightings of that terrible phenomenon Budgie Smugglers.

Doesn't look like an Easter Brown to me either, hasn't got a black head the juveniles have.
Maybe a baby python?
Easter brown? Nah an Easter brown looks like this:

Kiwiland it is then, but too much like Norway I have heard. Fjords, mountains and sheep?

Budgie S; Made me look, damn you! I thought it was some kind of bird. 🙁

Could be, although the eye/pupil looks perfectly round and I can't see any typical python pit organs around the upper jaw..
From the eye, scale pattern, coffin-shaped head, I'm guessing venomous

A poke in the eye with a sharp stick will never get rid of that mental image. Things like that can never be unseen.

Had a mate at work who lost a friend. He’s friend died after a night out. Went home drunk and was showing his mates a children’s python he had recently found.
Turned out it was a juvenile brown snake that had bit him that night.

Holy fυck.. That's so shocking! A Juvenile Eastern Brown is still so unbelievably venomous; even when they've just hatched their extremely venomous, from what I understand they tend to chew when they bite releasing uber amounts of venom containing a whole cocktail of deadly toxins.. It's one of the most venomous snakes on Earth.

Jesus, how can you tell the difference between that funnel web and the venomous Aussie Mouse spider? They look identical to me.. Apart from the ones that have got the overtly red thorax (males I think?)..
Apparently the mouse spider doesn't occur in southern Tasmania.

Because they all got eaten by the bigger and nastier tiger spiders that live there!

I know it's wrong on a few levels to say it, but that girl has bigger balls than me.

Many years ago I was driving down a mountain track in the dark with a mate. I saw a huge spider on the windscreen and said:
"Hey Greg, look at the size of that bugger out there!"
Greg, calmly: "It's not out there Jimbo, it's on the ins........".

I didn't hear the rest, I did an poor impersonation of a paratrooper exiting the aircraft at about 20kph. Luckily the brush cushioned my landing and Greg calmly steered the truck until it stalled, brushed the 30cm Hunstman into the bush and came back and got me.

Well, maybe not 30cm, but at least a good hand span size.
